I loved it. I chose to read this book because it's by my favorite author and second book in the Teardrop series. This series is very emotional and about the rise of Atlantis. It had an unspected ending as well.
Two things I loved about the series was the love story and how the story deals with the main characters emotions. For example, how it shows you shouldn't bottle your emotions up inside. My favorite character's in it would probably be her younger twin brother William and sister Claire. I also liked Brooks as well.
I 100% recommend

Informative but no depth
When audible originals offered this book up as part of their two free originals a month program, I just had to snag it. One of the weird quirks I have is that I hate mysteries, but I LOVE true crime. This 2 hour and 45-minute novella was right up my alley. When I was looking for something short to listen to, I decided that this something different than the romance books that I'm currently reading.
The information in this novella was interesting and well researched but still lacked depth. Most of the information that was presented in this book felt glossed over. One of the things I thought Bryan Burrough was exceptional at was not being too graphic about the crimes. Unfortunately, it seems that that lack of detail was present throughout the entire book. I would have loved to see more information about the background of the individuals and the town itself.
Something else that felt off in this audiobook was the narration. Steve White is an excellent narrator, but I don't feel that he was the right choice for this book. His intonations seemed to be too upbeat for a true crime novel about rape and murder. I would have preferred a more somber tone & his voice did not do this book justice.
All in all, this was an okay book. The details were interesting, but I wish that there would have been more depth to it.

The Cookbook Nook is celebrating National Chocolate Month while the town of Crystal Cove is celebrating pirates. However, missing doubloons that are to be a prize at the end of the week put a damper on the festivities. That’s nothing compared to what happens when the owner of a cookbook publishing company is murdered. The victim had lived in Crystal Cove and published several residents. But when Jenna’s friend becomes the police’s chief suspect, Jenna begins trying to find someone else who had motive for murder.
This is a strong book in the series. The plot is constantly unraveling pieces as the suspects lie and point fingers at each other. I had no clue where it was all leading until the end. Meanwhile, the characters are continuing to grow and show us new sides, which I love.
NOTE: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

UGH, I so wanted this novel to be good. This book basically attempted to fix what the Last Jedi messed up.
For one, I'm not completely sold on the author. I hadn't ever read anything she'd written before, and this book didn't exactly want me to pick up anything else by her. Having her write this novel was a mistake, someone more established and proven should have been the one to write this novel.
The novel picks up right after the Last Jedi. There's a semi-emo Poe, trying to get over the clusterf-ck of what Rian Johnson did to his character. The return of Wedge was highly anti-climactic, and I don't really understand why it was done. I'm assuming he ends up with a larger role in Rise of Skywalker? Who knows?
Also, Leia was on Ryloth and Hera WASN'T in the book? Fail, and a mistake.
Overall, the characters were wooden, and it was a highly predictable book. Maybe it was essential reading? We'll see in a month.

First after reading this I gave it 5 stars - I still truly enjoyed this book and reading it in paper format this time was a definite plus - but for some reason it didn't hit the 5* for me, perhaps it was reading it so close together, but I wanted to complete gemina and obsidio this month so I decided to re-read ... ah well, live and learn right? I still highly love this book
I loved it I loved it I loved it - this is a must read book. However, my only complaint was that I read this in ebook format and I felt like it lost a lot of its luster. Reading it on my ipad I got half of the effect of reading it on the webpage version of the ebook. How is that possible? the blacked out words were not blacked out, the blacked pages were not black, a lot of it was messed up with formatting there, but webpage seemed a lot better. If anything, I say pick up a hard copy of the book, which I will be doing very soon!
How can you feel for an AI like this - for some reason I was on a rollercoaster of emotions with this book, I both wanted to hug it and punch it at the same time - or throw it across the room - but I'd break my precious ipad.
This book was laugh out loud funny - for real, there were parts where I could not stop laughing - and there were parts where you just wanted to cry.
Such a well written book, such a great book - I cannot wait to read book 2!!!!!!! In book format this time........get the full effect.

Cora was born into slavery as her mother before her was. When the offer to run North was first brought to her attention, Cora wasn't interested. After a few instances happened on the plantation, Ceasar asked her again and this time she decided to say yes. Planning their route very carefully, they are able to make it away from the plantation, but will they be able to avoid the slave catchers forever?
This is one of Oprah's latest picks. I had a lot of high hopes for this book since previous Oprah selections have really held my attention But this book, just didn't do it for me. I was very disappointed It took me nearly a month to read this book and I felt as if I had to finish it to find out if it was going to get any better. There were parts that I got through faster than the rest of the book, but for the most part, I had not desire to pick up the book the way I usually do with whatever book I am reading. It seems this year Oprah's theme for her selections have been the same theme as previous selections in the 2.0 Book club.
I think the idea behind this book was great, and normally, I enjoy this type of historical fiction but this book just didn't do it for me. I got excited when I first heard about this book. Having the Underground being an actual railroad instead of just a "trail" made it seem more believable and more understandable on how the slaves traveled from the horrible conditions of the south to the freedom offered by the north. I wish this book would have been more enjoyable, but it just wasn't. Maybe others will get more from this story than I did. I'm not sure if I will read more from Colson Whitehead or not.

I don't know how The Bookworm Crush got crushed out of my radar, but apparently it did until last month and aren't we glad this landed into my radar?
Because in this house, we stan books that are purely bookish, with references that will bring nostalgia on a nice and shiny platter. (My favorites from middle school! The OGs of YA I --!!!)
