Tess has just picked up her entire life in Ohio and decided to move to New York City. She has no plans, no job, but she knows she has to get away. When she arrives in New York, she already has a
place to live lined up, but she has to move quickly to find a job. She drops her resume at several coffee shops and restaurants and hopes for the best. When she come upon one of the best restaurants in the city. She's sure she won't have a shot with this place, but what is there to lose? She is pleasantly surprised when she is invited to train.
It took me a while to get through this book. Vacation was a big part of it and another part was that I just didn't find myself drawn to the story. I think those in the restaurant industry will appreciate this book. My husband, who isn't a reader, was intrigued by the story as I was listening to it once when he was in the car. The main reason I decided to pick up this book was because I was interested in the TV show on Starz after seeing the previews. I had to read the book first before I could watch the show.
So after a month, I finally got through the book. I'm not sure I would ever want to work at a restaurant after this. All the drinking, drugs and sex that goes on. It seems like everyone is sleeping with the everyone else and no one seems to care. I'm sure if I was younger this book would be more appealing to me.

Graveside Murder
In an effort to increase bookings at her family’s Louisiana bed and breakfast during October, Maggie Crozat has come up with the “Pelican’s Spooky Past” promotion. Five of the area B & B’s are teaming up and offering historical crafts, food, and other promotions to tie in to the season. Someone else has gotten into the act since guests keep siting a rougarou, a local legendary monster. One of the events during the month is a play being staged at a nearby dilapidated graveyard. The first couple of weekends, the play goes well, but then at one performance someone in a rougarou costume stumbles onto the stage and dies. As cross jurisdictional strife heats up, Maggie and her family find themselves caught in the middle as prime suspects. Can Maggie clear their names?
Reading this series always makes me want to visit Louisiana in person, and this book is no exception. I also appreciate how we learn something about local customs, legends, and food while we read. The plot is strong with plenty of twists and action to keep us engaged and guessing. I do have a couple of niggles with the climax, but they are minor overall. The characters are as wonderful as ever. I love seeing the regulars again and watching them and their relationships grow. Meanwhile, the suspects are just as strong as the series regulars. Those looking for some Cajun flavor in their life will enjoy the five recipes we get at the end of the book. Fans of the series will enjoy the latest book, and if you are new to the series, this will make you go back and read the books you’ve missed.

After reading this book for forever, I have finally finished it.
I loved the character development of all of our favorites and the introduction of some new ones. The Soul Catcher is a favorite of mine, to be completely honest. She is amazing and I aspire to be as badass as she is one day.
Helene was more bearable in this book than the first one. I liked how she was independent and strong and didn't take shit from anyone. Plus, she wasn't as moony over Elias in this book which I adored.
Laia was a bad ass in her own right. I loved her strength as well. She is a persistent little one, isn't she? The only thing I didn't like about her story line was Keenan. He bugs the hell out of me and has from the beginning. (BTW, I knew there was something shady about him from the beginning.)
Elias is a cinnamon roll too precious for this world. Yes, he can kill people with basically just a look, but damn, he does it well. And he's always looking out for other people before himself. To be honest, he is my second favorite behind the Soul Catcher.
Tas and Bee were adorable and I hated them being hurt.
Darin, holy shit, man. I just feel bad for all of the shit he has gone through. Let's give the guy a break, maybe a cup of tea and some soup and a big warm blanket so he can curl up and sleep for a while.
The story line was well paced, and I really enjoyed it while I was reading it. Not like you could tell with my four month reading spell...but I honestly really enjoyed this book. I am glad we are getting two more after this one!!

The subject this month that was picked for my book club was world war one, I was struggling to find a book to read, and so was lent two books. This one by my mother and war horse by my friend. I chose to read this one, and was honestly a bit dubious about reading it. I have always been more interested in ancient history than modern history and didn't think it would agree with me. However I couldn't put this book down, the way it is written makes you feel like you are sat with Harry, listening to him tell his stories, and for me it us unusual to read about someone that didn't want to go to war. Also reading about his life, and the things he did before the war and after it....well what and interesting man and definitely full of character. I hope his story lives on for a long time to come.

At the beginning of May, PI Kinsey Millhone is hired by a woman named Irene to track down her mother. The two usually talk one a month, but it’s been several months since they last talked. Before Kinsey can head out to the Salton Sea area, she gets words that a dangerous criminal is vowing revenge on the people who put him away, and one of those people is Kinsey. She does take the threat seriously. Should she? Will it complicate her search for the missing woman?
I was hoping with two parallel plots that they would build off each other. That doesn’t happen quite as well as I would have liked. In fact, the book begins to drag in the middle, although it certainly picks up near the end. We get to know another supporting character pretty well here, which in turn lets us get to know Kinsey better, which I love.
