Too stubborn on the wrong things
This is the second book of the series. I have not read the first, but was able to follow along fairly well while realizing that this wasn't the first part if the story. I didn't get lost and was able to piece together most of the missing information. The few gaps I still had that book one probably filled didn't detract me from enjoying the story.
Stubborn characters are great, mostly.
The characters where fun and there are a lot of humorous bits, as well as, steamy ones.
I won't be buying this series (unless I get it secondhand cheap) but I would check it out at the library. And can see how others would love it.
It has a bit more romance than I usually like and I did know this so I didn't (tried not to) over bias myself.

Merissa (13149 KP) rated The Keeper (Crossing Realms Series #1) in Books
Sep 25, 2023
This story starts with a human woman in a dead-end job, suffering on a minute-by-minute basis with severe anxiety. Her life changes when she is stuck in a traffic jam and a stranger taps on her car window.
This book is full of heartbreak and hope. I can't imagine how hard it was for Nick to lose Libby time and time again! Libby is a strong character, who initially appears weak as self-doubt rules her.
The Keeper is the first of a new series that I can't wait to read more of. Every character is well-rounded and developed. The storyline is smoothly paced, building to the climax, with shocks and surprises throughout. Looking forward to continuing with this series and definitely recommended!
* I received this book from Barclay Publicity / NetGalley in return for a fair and honest review. *

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2389 KP) rated The Last Orphan in Books
Jul 7, 2023 (Updated Jul 7, 2023)
Evan Faces a Conflicting Mission
Once again, the US government is tracking down assassin Evan Smoak. Only he doesn’t know it until it is too late. When he is given an ultimatum, he does his own research into the assignment. Will he find a reason to pursue it?
There’s enough background, you could jump in here, but I’ll always recommend you read a series in order. I’m a little vague in my plot teaser since the book takes a little time to set things up, and it’s best to watch things unfold. That’s not to say we don’t get action early and often, which is always page turning. I feel like we didn’t quite get as much growth for Evan, although there was still some. And I enjoy the added bits of humor that come in as the series progresses. The story ends with not quite a cliffhanger, but definitely setting up the next book. Overall, fans will enjoy Evan’s latest adventure

Merissa (13149 KP) rated Remembered (Hollow City Coven #5) in Books
May 20, 2023
This has been a wonderful series so far, but this instalment blew the others out of the water. In this novella, we get the story of Tenebris and how Galia, Mina, and Strayke end up there, and what becomes of them once they are there. The majority of this story is told about the past, with Gillian, Mathias, and Shayne only making a brief appearance at the end.
This certainly fills in the holes that Gillian has had in her 'memory', whilst giving the reader a front-row seat in their history. Exceedingly well-written, with characters that jump out of the page to you. With no editing or grammatical errors that I found, this is an excellent addition to the Hollow City Coven series, and definitely recommended.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Merissa (13149 KP) rated Curious Cameron (Secret Lives of Hot Twinks #1) in Books
Mar 18, 2025
CURIOUS CAMERON is the first novella in the Secret Lives of Hot Twinks series.
The titular character, Cam, has been diagnosed with ADHD and dropped out of art school. His gay best friend, Trevor, is in the military and they married to help each other out. Now, you know it's not going to stay that way!
This is a novella so it moves very fast, especially once Cameron's curiosity kicks into gear. Trevor is happy to help, although I did like the scene where he had second thoughts.
A quick, fun, lighthearted read that is full of spice. A great introduction to the series and I hope to read more. Definitely recommended by me.

Merissa (13149 KP) rated Wicked Fire (Wicked Magic #3) in Books
Dec 27, 2019
WICKED FIRE is the third book in the Wicked Magic series, and we continue our story by focusing on Morgaine and Drako. Morgaine was imprisoned within a menhir but it broke and she was free. After being 'oh so nicely' given the instructions to go to America and save Lily, she goes to fight Teran. If that saves Lily, all good. Drako is expelled from Lily's body and into one of his own at long last. Together, he and Morgaine try to get up to speed with the times, as well as learn how to work together. Pretty hard going when Drako knows Morgaine isn't telling him the whole truth.
This was such a brilliant book. I devoured every word. Morgaine and Drako are absolutely perfect for each other, once they get past the mistrust. I love how Lily and her men are interwoven into this story, becoming an integral part of Morgaine's life.
There are other characters that drew me to them though, Yan and Feather to name just two. I'm really, REALLY, hoping that Feather gets her own book. She does have her very own dragon after all! Plus Yan and Omer's story isn't over yet either. Oh, so many stories I still want to read!
I would recommend you read this book after at least reading book two in the series (Wicked Truth). Like I've said, it involves Lily and so I think it would help. Basically though, I recommend this book. It is hot, it is emotional, it is full of action and adventure. Absolutely brilliant!!
I received a review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Merissa (13149 KP) rated Over the Falls (Ryder Bay #1) in Books
Jan 17, 2019
Over the Falls (Ryder Bay #1) by Jordan Ford
Over the Falls is the first book in the Ryder Bay series, and it's one I can't wait to continue. It is full of those extreme feelings you can only get when you are young, plus hardships, and a dash of mystery. I have read 'Dear Diary' and loved the insight into Harley. I'm glad I don't have to wait until book three to find out what happened in her past, and yet I am totally thrilled to find out how she moves forward. I've already found some of it out in this book, but I just know there is so much more to come.
The characters are all extremely well written, whether you like them or not! There is one in particular who I think I know what happened, but don't want to say anything yet, because no doubt Jordan Ford will put a twist on it, and I shall be wrong! ? The situations are all completely believable, the conversations are natural, and the relationships are perfect - whether they are new or have been there for a while.
I devoured this book in one sitting. After I started it, I just couldn't put it down. With a slight cliffhanger ending, it has definitely left me wanting more. I will absolutely be continuing with this series, and have no hesitation in highly recommending it.
