Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2273 KP) rated Murder in Grub Street (Sir John Fielding, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Sir John Fielding investigates when a family of printers are brutally murdered in 1760's London. This is the second in the series. I loved the characters as much as in the first, but I found the plot way too slow and predictable, with a second plot taking up way too much time.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2273 KP) rated Sonnet of the Sphinx (Poetic Death Mystery, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Peter has to produce an item he doesn't know where is or get dragged back to Turkey. Meanwhile, Grace thinks she's found a lead on a previously unknown Percy Shelley sonnet. This is a bit slower than the previous two stories in the series, but it's still a fun romp with great characters.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2273 KP) rated Owls Well That Ends Well (Meg Langslow, #6) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The large garage sale Meg and Michael are throwing to clean up their new home is drawing huge crowds. Sorry, the body in that trunk isn't included. The humor had me laughing the entire way through, and I thought this was the best mystery of the series. Very well done.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2273 KP) rated The Field Guide (The Spiderwick Chronicles, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The Grace family has moved into the house of a distant relative. The first night, the kids hear a noise in the walls. The next day, they find an old manuscript. Might it explain what is happening? It's an important first step in this series of interconnected novellas, but just being set up weakens it some.

Mar 9, 2018
The pope is coming to LA, and Madeline is catering the welcome breakfast. But while prepping, she finds a letter that seems to confess to a murder, and it sets her off on a mystery with ties to the past. Still my favorite in the series with a fast paced, twisty plot and such wonderful characters.

Clare Parrott (294 KP) rated Irresistibly Yours (The Durand Chronicles, #2) in Books
Feb 13, 2018
This is the second book in the Durand Chronicles series by Lark Brennan
It's set in Paris and the author seems to have done her homework for the locations.
This is a Paranormal Romance between Adrien and Tate and although it's a well-written story, the characters and the plot are great, I struggled to fully enjoy it and in the end was more of a slog for me to get through.
