J. L. Stowers (136 KP) rated Signetorium: The Depths in Books
Apr 26, 2018
Imaginative new fantasy series
I think this author is really on to something. This book was an exciting coming of age story set in a magical world. When the youth fails to live up to their potential they're thrust into a dangerous environment meant to activate their powers. In the darkness they'll need to work together to fight innumerable enemies in hopes of escape.
I'm really looking forward to reading the next installment.

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Blue Blood (Debutante Dropout, #1) in Books
Feb 15, 2019
A great start to the Debutante Drop-out series. Fast moving, fun, and with a thoroughly likable protagonist in Andy. The characters that needed to be were well-developed, the plot interesting - so the mystery is easily figured out for lack of suspects, but I didn't notice any plot holes! - and overall, the book was just plain good. I'm looking forward to reading the others and am so glad that I have the next one right here. :)

Ooo.. I loved this one more then the first. I loved everything. The magic was cooler.. the characters amazing and I loved that the ones from the first were in the 2nd also. This was amazing and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book and I'm hoping we see more of the first two sisters with their triplet. I am really enjoying this series. So grateful the author allowed me to review for her :)

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Wake Up Little Susie (Sam McCain, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Sam McCain, part time lawyer and PI, investigates when the wife of a political hopeful is found dead in the trunk of the new Ford Edsel. I really enjoyed this trip back to the late 1950's, although the plotting could have been a little better. I do plan to read more in the series.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Moon Water Madness (Luanne Fogarty Mysteries, #7) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Adjunct county diver Luanne Fogarty is asked to search for a body in a private lake. The twist is, the man died 50 years ago. Why search for him now? What happened to him all those years ago? Just like the others in the series, this one offers vivid writing, memorable characters, and a solid plot.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Sympathy for the Devil (Madeline Bean, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Madeline Bean is catering the Hollywood party this Halloween. But things take a bad turn when the host, producer Bruno Huntley, dies in the middle of the festival. This debut features great characters and lots of fun twists to the plot and started what is still a top notch series. I just wish there were more than seven books.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated The Chocolate Snowman Murders (A Chocoholic Mystery, #8) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
When Lee goes to pick up the judge for this year's Winter Festival, she finds him drunk and a real jerk. Dropping him off in a hotel room seems like the best idea, until he is found murdered with Lee as the prime suspect. This is the seventh in the series and will certainly please fans of light cozies.

Meg Dean (138 KP) rated Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) in Books
Jun 20, 2018
What to say about this one?
I hate to post bad reviews, but I really didn't like this one much! There are too many characters! It got very hard to keep track of who is loyal to who, who is sleeping with who...etc...
I think the author tried to introduce every character & species in the first book of the series and overloaded it a bit!
2 stars...I may read the second one...I don't know yet!

Erika (17789 KP) rated The Mighty Captain Marvel Vol. 1: Alien Nation in Books
Oct 27, 2018
I wanted to like Stohl's version of Carol Danvers... Wanted being key. This book (and the 'Mighty Captain Marvel' series) skews to a younger demographic, that I'm just not part of anymore. I know they want to get young readers, so it does accomplish that, I think.
Yet another rehash of a story that's been told over and over. How many times does Carol have to lose control of her damn powers? Nothing new here, move along.
