Alicia S (193 KP) rated Angel's Halo (Angel's Halo MC, #1) in Books
Sep 28, 2018
Was immediately hooked on this book! Think I have a new top MC Series to add to my list of favorites! I absolutely LOVE Raven, growing up the only daughter of an MC President, this girl is as tough as you can imagine. Bash, as bad a$$ as he may be, going from Club Enforcer to President, he is a complete softie when it comes to Raven. As much as these two have gone through and the mistakes and trials they have made along the way, I still have no doubt these two belong together and can't WAIT to hear more of their story! Diving right into the next book!!! One day read for me, I couldn't put it down!?

Moke J Dupman (12 KP) rated Wolfwater (Travelers #3) in Books
Jan 6, 2019
Imaginative, well written story
Once again, Alia Hess knocks one outta the park. Wolfwater follows all the Travelers characters as they find themselves on more harrowing and suspenseful adventures. The story flows nicely from one book to the next, and the characters evolve as the life they once knew changes. Several times I found myself wishing I could meet the people of Nis, especially Sasha & Trav, and Owl, and well, Dewbell, Dusty & Corvin too! Ms. Hess’ does an superb job making them all feel so real!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the books in this series and am looking forward to reading the next! I received an advanced reader copy of the book and leave this review of my own volition. Wolfwater gets a 4.9/5? from me.

David McK (3496 KP) rated The Rise of Robin Hood (Outlaw Chronicles, #0.5) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Short prequel to the first of Angus Donald's Outlaw series about Robin Hood.
Whereas the books proper are all presented as an ageing Alan-a -Dale remembering his time with Robin and were told in the first person, this is told in third person and is not 'book-ended' in such a manner. While there are a few other characters than the already-living-in-the-woods Robin and John, it also does not have such a wide range of characters as in the novels proper, and feels maybe a little bit rushed.
In short: an OK entry for anyone who hasn't read any of the novels proper, but I would still advise the reader to start with the first book rather than this novella.

David McK (3496 KP) rated Earth Unaware (The First Formic War, #1) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
A prequel to Orson Scott Card's classic [b:Ender's Game|8782597|Ender's Game|Frederic P. Miller|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348614228s/8782597.jpg|11571577], with the events of this taking place before Ender is even born.
This thus takes the opportunity to flesh out the background to that novel, filling in the gaps of what had previously happened, in particular how the First Formic War had come about. It was also, I believer, written alongside a comic-book series, which might explain the sometimes fractured nature of the narrative!
While not the best 'new' (to me) sci-fi book I've read, this is also not he worst: I also have to say that, picking it up for only £1 in a local Bargain books I can't really complain!

Erika (17789 KP) rated The Innocent Man- Season One in TV
Dec 30, 2018
I remember when the book, 'The Innocent Man' came out, and how it was a BFD that John Grisham had written a non-fiction book. If it had been written as fiction, you wouldn't be able to believe it.
The docu-series covers two cases in which it seems that the wrong people were convicted off of bunk evidence and false confessions. It was well put together, for the most part, but it does skip around, so if you're not paying close enough attention, it can get confusing. It was very easy to watch all of the episodes back to back.
I have a feeling that there may be a 2nd season, since one of the cases is still ongoing.

AJaneClark (3975 KP) rated Pucked Up (Pucked #2) in Books
Jan 12, 2020
The second in the Pucked series follows Miller (Buck) Butterson attempting and failing to win over his ice hockey team Captain’s (and future brother in law Alex) sister Sunny Waters. Buck and Sunny would be great together if only things and people would stop interfering!
Buck means well, but he certainly isn’t the smartest, and Sunny is young and sheltered, and everyone around her is over protective. But when the world finally gets a glimpse of the real Buck things start to change for the better!
This isn’t as funny as the first book, but still great writing! The character development is great too!
Follows on great from the first book but can also be read as a stand alone.
