Kimmic (814 KP) rated The Cabin (The Cold Case Quartet #2) in Books
Sep 3, 2021
It normally takes me a day or 2 to finish these types of books. This is me giving up after 2 weeks! So boring. I just felt that the book went on and on and about the money, I'm over 50% in and we still know next to nothing, still talking about where the money COULD be from... I can't take it anymore. I'm avoiding reading just so I don't have to listen to this anymore and that is when I realised I needed to just quit else I will still be stuck on this book in July when I could be reading something I actually enjoy.

Nemesis is the third book from the Tom Wilde series by Rory Clements. I haven't read the previous two books, and I also haven't read any books from Rory Clements before. I received this book through ReadersFirst, and I will be honest, I was quite reluctant to read it. You already know my opinion on reading sequels before reading the previous books - but I went in blind in this book.
The blue cover is simply gorgeous and I knew it was a thriller and a mystery, so I decided this was enough to get me going. If this book review ever captures your attention, I advise you to also go in blind. I think going blind made me enjoy this book even more. The fact that this is a third book in a series doesn't mean anything. The only similarity with the other books is the main character. Almost the same basis as Dan Brown's series and his professor Robert Langdon. The books are entirely standalones.
It is very hard to reveal what the plot is about without spoiling the fun. Tom Wilde is a university professor and one of his very talented students, Marcus, has left to join the International Brigades in Spain. Now, two years after, he is in trouble, and Tom helps him come home.
Meanwhile, numerous things happen, involving World War 2 Politics and propaganda, and in these times, no one knows who to trust. And when Tom Wilde finds himself in great danger, who will help him? And who does he needs to be afraid from? Has maybe helping Marcus been his greatest mistake?
Nemesis is full of suspense from the very first chapter, and the thing I loved the most about it was that the chapters are quite short, and always leave you hanging, hungry to find out more. Every word that Rory Clements types had a meaning and a purpose in this book, and that was the bit I admired the most.
The time setting revolves around the Second World War - a subject I don't often read about. I can't judge about the historical fiction element. However I do know that while I am a person that doesn't enjoy war books, this one struck me in a nice way. The war setting was very well written, and you could even feel the atmosphere around it. The ending was pleasantly surprising and it involved a mystery I could simply not resist.
I will definitely read more books by Rory Clements, as I really enjoy the writing. If you enjoy thrillers and if you are a fan of Dan Brown, you will probably enjoy Nemesis a lot!

Sarah (7800 KP) rated Pyramids: Discworld Novel 7 in Books
Aug 6, 2017
This isn't a bad book, none of the Discworld books Are, I just don't think it's quite as strong a story as many of the others I've read. Teppic is a great character, it was good to find out more about the assassins guild and I like the fact that it was set in the time of mummies and pyramids. My issue mainly is that the plot gets a little too bonkers and for my tastes there wasn't as much humour in this.

Casino Royale is the first book in the James Bond Series. I’m sure everyone knows who that is.
I have absolutely nothing good to say about this book.
I was so excited to read this. The movies are pretty awesome and action-packed. I thought the book would be fast paced and gripping. This has been one of the most boring books I have ever read. Bond wasn’t suave, calculating, or deadly. He was just pure, dumb lucky. It was so disappointing.

This is my fav one so far.. I love Daegus.. he is hott and amazing and sooo awesome. I love his twin's book also but omg.. this one.. YUM. i loved his girl as well.. she was an awesome heroine. the only thing that irritates me a little about these books is all the girls are like 24+ in age and still a virgin.. does that really matter? but otherwise they are still amazing and wonderful and i totally recommend them :)
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2456 KP) rated Some Like It Hot-Buttered (Double Feature Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A new series from a favorite author left me a little cold. I didn't find it nearly as funny as his old books, and the mystery was weak. What's funny about this is the series centers around the owner of a comedy movie theater. Owner Elliot Freed investigates when a man is poisoned by his pop corn during the nightly double feature.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2456 KP) rated Madness at Moonshiner's Bay (Accidental Detectives, #8) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The Accidental Detectives are off to Disney World, only their trip is interrupted when Ricky, Joel, and Lisa are kidnapped and trapped on an island guarded by an alligator. Can they figure out what their captor's want? Definitely one of the more suspenseful books in the series, but still so very good. My feet get clammy just thinking about some of the scenes.

Heather Cranmer (2721 KP) rated One Breath Away in Books
Jun 6, 2018
Wow, wow, wow! This book was very gripping! I loved the way the main characters had their own points of view as chapters. The whole plot was amazing. I can not think of one bad thing to say about this book. I'm definitely going to give Heather Gudenkauf's other books a read now as I believe she is a brilliant writer. This book is so emotional, and I would've never guessed the gunman's identity at the end. What a shocker!
Roxanne (13 KP) rated New Moon (Twilight, #2) in Books
Nov 9, 2018
Bella moans and groans some more....if it weren't for this seriously lacking and annoying character these books would be so much more enjoyable without feeling constantly frustrated. I really like the werewolves and the Cullens are likeable but the 'thing' between edward and bella gets old very quickly, they just go on and on about the same thing over and over again until you just want to scream at them to get it together and stop wasting my time already!
