Merissa (12882 KP) rated Rare Form (Descended of Dragons #1) in Books
Apr 19, 2023
This is the debut novel of Jen Crane and she has started with a belter! There are some brilliant one-liners in here, and she has given a new meaning between a younger girl and an older man!
So many characters in here to draw you in! Stella herself is cracking! She deals with life-changing events with attitude and aplomb, whilst committing herself fully. Gresham is simply gorgeous and I can't get enough of him. Timbra is sweet but with a sassy edge. Ewan - what can I say about him? He intrigues me and I can't wait to see where this story will take him.
Well-written, smoothly paced, and laced with humour, this is a book to savour! Definitely recommended by me and I can't wait for book 2!!

Hazel (2934 KP) rated No Less The Devil in Books
May 1, 2022
I have read and enjoyed a few books by Mr MacBride but this one has me in a quandary as whilst it had me on the edge of my seat at times, there were also times when it didn't.
For the majority of the book it appears to be your 'usual' hunt for a killer story with excellent characters, intriguing plot and twists but then it develops into something else which, I can only say, had me reading with my mouth hanging open and wondering if I had stumbled into an alternative universe. I can't go into detail here as it will give the game away but what I will say is be prepared!!
This is a dark and gritty read that you definitely need to keep your wits about you and your mind open and I must thank Random House UK / Transworld Publishers via NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this in order to share my thoughts.

Merissa (12882 KP) rated Little Mate (Gay Monsters in Space #1) in Books
Sep 13, 2023
LITTLE MATE is the first book in the Gay Monsters in Space series, and it is a perfect hot-and-spicy coffee break book!
The pacing is fast but the story is all there. We're also talking about a HUGE case of instalust, although Jake does do his best to fight it at the beginning. His sarcasm was spot on. And Zahn's reaction to it was brilliant.
I would have liked a little more to the story, but I'm always greedy with novellas and end up wanting more. And it was nice to see Jake's sister get her HEA too.
A great start to the series and I look forward to reading more.

Hazel (2934 KP) rated The Close (Maeve Kerrigan #10) in Books
Mar 18, 2023
Yet another cracker from Jane Casey in her excellent Maeve Kerrigan series that never gets stale and whilst this may be book 10 in the series, I think you could just about get away with it as a standalone but I really would recommend you read the rest of the books if only because they are all excellent!
The Close is yet another gripping read with the right mix of intrigue and action, red herrings and plot twists. Being a fan of Maeve and Josh, I loved that they were working undercover together acting as a couple and it really brought a different dimension and added tension to the story and kept my grubby little eyes reading as fast as they possibly could.
Highly recommended series and I can't wait for the next and many thanks to HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of The Close.

Laura Doe (1350 KP) rated The Duke and I (Bridgertons, #1) in Books
Jan 3, 2022
I didn’t expect too much from this as I watched the show before reading the book, but I think the show did a really good adaptation as it wasn’t too far off the source material!
I thoroughly enjoyed following Daphne and Simon through their fake courtship and into them ending up getting married and the trials that came with married life.
It was really well written, and kept me completely engrossed… so engrossed that I read it in an evening! It was good that it focused a lot more on their blossoming relationship with each other than the parties and other characters, as I feel this gives you more of a want to read the rest of the books in the series to find out more about Daphne’s siblings.
I can’t wait to carry on with the series, I think Julia Quinn’s writing is beautiful and I have hopes that the rest of the series is just as good as this book has been!

Merissa (12882 KP) rated Sky Stone (Sky Stone #1) in Books
May 20, 2023
Skyla doesn't fit in at home, although you are never really given a reason why. She is fostered and has weekly psych visits which she feels that she doesn't need. One day, just as she's about to go on such a visit, she sees a flash of light and follows it. She is then transported to a different world, with war and betrayal the only constant.
Completely written from Skyla's perspective, this comes across as a young tale, which is not surprising considering the author was only fifteen when she started writing. That being said, it is a very well-written piece, full of adventure and insta-love, magic and sword-play.
For anyone looking for a detailed, light work of fantasy, then I can definitely recommend this.
* I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review. *
