Merissa (12841 KP) rated Hear Me in Books
Apr 14, 2023
This is a story about two people separated by a physical barrier which is either magic or a miracle, depending on your viewpoint. The 'townies' fear the 'forest folk' and when dark magic started leaking into their town, they decided to put a barrier up to keep out the darkness. At least, that's the story that Ivy believes.
The tale unravels a list of deceptions and prejudices whilst dealing with dark magic and sacrifice. It also deals with love and how deep a love can go, even when circumstances aren't exactly light and fluffy.
It was well-written with no plot holes that I found. The only thing that I found jarred me slightly was the mention of modern technology but that just helped to emphasise the differences between the townies and the forest folk.
A wonderful story that enthralled me, definitely recommended.

Merissa (12841 KP) rated Written on my Heart in Books
Dec 17, 2018 (Updated Apr 14, 2023)
This story is about two individuals who have both had to deal with an amazing amount in their pasts that most people wouldn't cope with, without curling up into a ball and hoping for everyone and everything to go away.
Ashlyn is struggling to cope with her new flatmate and her job, especially when her past comes a-knocking. Lane is working all hours to try to provide for his family. Their paths cross when Ashlyn's co-worker, Emily, sends her to him to get a tattoo covered over. Their relationship is bumpy which makes a nice change, no insta-love here.
This is well-written and has a smooth plot line. Although you are told some of what happened to Ashlyn, it doesn't go into too much detail. An enjoyable contemporary romance, recommended.

Merissa (12841 KP) rated Embrace the Magic (The Blood Rose #2) in Books
Apr 14, 2023
What a wonderful story! This is a rich and in-depth tale from the Nine Realms with a history of over 40 years in the making. Samantha has to learn just who she is and also about people that she thought she knew. Ethan has to make peace with himself for something that he has carried out needless guilt for far too long. Putting these two together is explosive! I loved how they worked so well together, neither one smothering the other, instead providing strength and support whenever it was needed.
The story flows well and there are no plot holes that I fell into. The characters, whether 'good' or 'bad' are well-rounded and believable. The Blood Rose series continues to shine and I have no hesitation in recommending this book or the series.

Merissa (12841 KP) rated Duty, Honor, Love (Toronto's Elite Book 1) in Books
Apr 15, 2023
Cameron and his partner, Jaden, are working on a case with missing children and it quickly moves on to something a lot worse and it's been going on for longer than anyone had realised. Cameron has tried to hide his attraction to Jaden for a long time but as she is a powerful telepathic, he hasn't always been successful. Paul is Jaden's friend who has supported her throughout her life. Cameron meets him in a dreamworld and the book takes on a whole new twist.
This is incredibly rich in detail and thoroughly thought out. The pacing is superb and you will be kept guessing to the end who the 'bad guy' is. If you want a mix of Thriller, Suspense, Ménage, Romance, MM, then this is definitely the book for you. I loved this book and hope to read more about Toronto's Elite very soon.

Merissa (12841 KP) rated Crossover (The Chosen One Trilogy #1) in Books
Apr 15, 2023
What can I say? I loved this book! It is fast-paced and well-written with fantastic characters that jump off the page. Having 'cats' and 'dogs' on either side of the war is a stroke of genius but the general storyline itself is fresh and interesting. I loved how Hayden is not backwards in coming forwards and has no difficulty in showing Jasper that she is interested.
This series has a lot of potential for me as there was so much I thoroughly enjoyed about it. The shifters, the 'bond' between the guards and the Queen, Darian, Brice, Tara, Shay - it's all there. I can't wait to read more and follow this series through.
A romantic fantastical read that was absolutely brilliant to read. Witty, funny, focused, and mysterious are all words I would use to describe it. Highly recommended.

Merissa (12841 KP) rated Seduced (Blood Rose Tales #3) in Books
Apr 15, 2023
Until now, the Blood Rose series has concentrated on the evil of the Invictus pairs. However, in this book, a new evil is brought to light. This one has been kidnapping children and torturing them for years. Willem has tried for years to find him but to no avail. Charlotte thinks that she is human but is completely at ease within the Realm. They have known each for months but we join their story halfway through their first date.
This is a fast-paced and exciting quick read, as we learn about both Charlotte and Willem. There are hard decisions to be made, with terrifying consequences if the wrong choice is made. There is no going back.
Excellently written and no grammatical errors that I found. This is another brilliant addition to the Blood Rose Tales. Definitely recommended.

Merissa (12841 KP) rated Claiming His Cowgirl (Crawley Creek #3) in Books
Apr 18, 2023
The third in the series concentrates on second chances, which I love. Vin made a decision twenty years ago that he has regretted ever since. Now he has a chance to put it right, and maybe get his very own HEA.
This series is a like a warm blanket you pull over to snuggle down. The characters are familiar and the new ones quickly become favourites. The humour and love are rampant and are the mainstay of the book, which makes it wonderful for a sappy romantic like myself.
I loved how Lori intertwined the new and old storylines, bringing about a hot and steamy romance, whilst getting updates on stories already told, preparing for new stories and don't forget, battling Mother Nature.
With some definite smokin' scenes, this is guaranteed to warm you up. Definitely recommended.

Merissa (12841 KP) rated Shadowed (Hollow City Coven #2) in Books
Apr 19, 2023
The second book in the Hollow City Coven series continues where Book 1 left off. Gillian and Shayne are together, sort of, as they travel to try and find more information about Tenebris. Gillian has a starting point, but the Midnight Market is not for the faint of heart.
With an FF kiss, and some steamy action from Gillian and Shayne, this book continues to be hot and steamy. However, this instalment is also mysterious and suspenseful. It also comes complete with an ending that leaves you wanting the next book in this series immediately.
For everything that you do, there is a price to pay. Is Gillian's price for going to the Midnight Market going to be too high? I certainly hope not but I am looking forward to Book 3 to find out. Definitely recommended.

Merissa (12841 KP) rated Garridan's Mate (Etherya's Earth #6.5) in Books
Dec 16, 2022
GARRIDAN'S MATE is part of the Etherya's Earth series, taking place before the battle between Bakari and Callie.
Garridan was born an aristocrat but prefers being a soldier. Siora is one of the first women allowed into the army. Together, these two are badass... once they can get past the misunderstandings that litter their every confrontation.
This was a great addition to one of my favourite series and I'm hoping to hear more about Sebastian and Celine. I also really want to go back and read Callie's story again, just because I can.
This packs a punch, even though it is a novella. The story flows perfectly and the pacing is spot-on. Everything you could ask for in a novella. A great addition to the series and absolutely recommended by me.

Lyndsey Gollogly (2893 KP) rated Drop Shot (Myron Bolitar #2) in Books
Dec 1, 2022

Book
Drop shot ( Myron Bolitar book 2)
By Harlan Coben
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The young woman was shot dead in cold blood, dropped outside the stadium, in front of a stand selling Moet for USD 7.50 a glass. Once her tennis career had skyrocketed. Now, at the height of the US Open, the headlines were being made by another young player from the wrong side of the tracks. When Myron Bolitar investigates the killing he uncovers a connection between the two players and a six year old murder at an exclusive club. Suddenly Myron is in over his head. And with a dirty US senator, a jealous mother and the mob all drawn into the case, he finds himself playing the most dangerous game of all ...
It was ok I liked the main character and the story was good if a little predictable. But overall it was an ok read I’ll continue with e the series and the author as I’ve heard good things about his other books.
