Good afternoon, lovely people! There's something very straightforward and true about this one, because the best books don't hand you everything, but leave just enough space for your own mind to move around in. Monday feels like a fine day to pick something up and let it do exactly that.

The book follows our heroines and heroes hoping to avert a possible disaster by finding the jade egg and defeating a wizard. Their only real map a puzzle of a prophecy that they have to figure out. It does use a lot of what I call "old or high" language where the meanings have changed from today's usage and there are a lot of thee and thine. As well as a peppering of what I think is Japanese and possibly French words. He also really likes the word whelm. The Dragonstone is philosophical inclined and many discussions about free will vs. predestination are inside.

Technically, I rate this book as 7 1/2 stars (I'm not sure how to do a half rating & enjoyed it enough to round up). I received over half of his books over ten years ago about the same time as the LOTR movies came out. Yes, they are very similar. You can tell he is a LOTR fan. Like a lot of his books, this story starts in the middle and builds through flashbacks. One of my favorite things about this books series is that you get multiple p.o.v. And you can read the series all hodgepodge with few as "true" sequels or trilogies- most of those are contained as one book now.

Oh my goodness. This book is just wow. It is so authentic and so heartbreaking. It speaks to the desire of our society to make snap judgements based on the media. It is about a school shooting, yes, but it is about so much more...family, heartbreak, love, loss, heroism. This was a great read despite the fact that I ugly cried for the last 5 chapters or so. This is one of those books that is going to stay with me for a loonngggg time.

This book blew my mind, and I haven't said that about any book in quite awhile. *SPOILER* The story bounces back and forth between Boston and Botswana. The entire time I assumed everything happening in both places was happening at the same time, but about halfway through it is revealed that the events in Botswana actually happened six years prior to what was happening in Boston. I literally had to stop and say "What??" out loud. Loved it, one of the best R&I books yet.

I actually enjoyed his book more than the first. I think this is because Pim is “free” so we get to see her start to live instead of survive. Also we get to see more of Elder and discover some of his secrets.

I am still very curious about this series so am about to start book 3.

I believe the books very realistically deal with Pim’s recovery from her torture especially the mental effects and the struggles she then faced to acclimatise to living with Elder.

Huh. I don't know what I expected. I just know I've had this book on my kindle for about 3yrs and it was about time I read it. I've read quite a few of the "love has no boundaries" books and enjoyed them but this...well, this one didn't help with me at all.

Maybe it was the period of time it was set in, maybe it was the storyline, I don't know. But I struggled from pretty much the start.

Not one in going to keep.
