LettieDC (17 KP) rated Dinosaur Island in Tabletop Games
Jan 2, 2019
Totally worth it!
I bought this game for my fiance after much deliberation due to the price. I got this and the expansion. I was a bit sceptical to start off with as it looked over complicated however once I started playing, it all made sense and now I love this game! It flows brilliantly and the goal is well established.
It has 3 game stages you can choose depending on the amount of time you want to be playing.. short, medium and long game play which is great for when you can't be stuck playing for hours.
The aim of the game is to build a dinosaur island park with different dinosaurs and attractions within it. You gain excitement points for each dinosaur you add which increases the amount of visitors you can have per round. You also gain Victory points for every visitor who you manage not to get eaten!
The game pieces are all really well made and easy to use. It is difficult to fit back into the box but I see it as a mini tetris bonus game each time!
Well worth investing in this game as it can and will bring hours of fun and excitement.

Benedick Lewis (3001 KP) rated Skyscraper (2018) in Movies
Jul 16, 2018
Straightforward plot (2 more)
Repetitious action
Poor script
High concept turned searching for a title
Skyscraper believe it or not features a building that is a skyscraper in it. This poor opening to this review reflects the poor standard this film has.
Dwayne Johnson is a family man who, 10 years after a botched mission that results in him losing his leg, works as a security consultant to highlight any dangers in the pearl, the building in Hong Kong considered the tallest in the world. Johnson is set up and the building is set alight, with Johnson’s family in it. He naturally goes to the rescue and the terrorists who have taken control of the building decide to use this to their advantage.
It had potential. Some out of the box thinking could have turned this film within its genre confines on its head but it doesn’t taken the opportunity and the result is a rather standard affair.
It is neither Johnson or the director’s, Rawson Marshall Thurber, finest hour nor can it be seen as a guilty pleasure film. That said, let’s hope the filmmakers learn their lesson from it and make better films in the future.

Debbiereadsbook (1110 KP) rated Dark Encounters Box Set in Books

3 very good shorts
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this box set of three short stories.
I can't write three individual reviews for such short stories, the whole box set is 130 pages, and it took my an hour to read, but I will write a general one, encompassing what I thought about the three tales, which all take place within the BDSM club, Dark Encounters
There is Elizabeth and Ren: She goes to the club open night, but ery nearly walks out without speaking to anyone, but she catches Ren's eye. He doesn't play very often, but felt a need to come to the club this night. Elizabeth is a sub, and Ren, a Dom and their night goes pretty much how you expect it to. Well written, from Elizabeth's point of view only. All three tales are single point of view, actually!
then we have Franco and Trevor: Franco works at the club and has had a crush on Trevor who owns said club, forever. But trevor doesn't play with his staff. A sex carnival gives Trevor the opportunity to finally act on his desire. They start at a Ferris Wheel spanking and things move quickly after that.
And my favourite of the three!
Kameron wants one thing, well TWO really. Theodore and Beck fit all the requirements Kameron has, but will they want him for more than one night? Can he really be the middle of a bear sandwich forever?
Three well written, well delivered but far too SHORT stories, that hit just the spot they need to. I read this in the tub, and thoroughly enjoyed it!
I haven't read anything else by this author, but I would like to now. Something longer, maybe a full length book. Something that shows off what she can do with more words and pages to play with!
4 very good stars

Merissa (11800 KP) rated Crush Box Set: Books 1 to 3 (Crush Box Set, #1) in Books
Jan 18, 2022 (Updated Jul 5, 2023)
CRUSH Box Set 1 is the first three full-length novels in the Crush series. Crush itself is a bar that features prominently in the first book, and then as a get-together place in the following two. All three stories are different and stand on their own, but I would recommend you read them as a series.
FIRST KISS tells the story of Charlie and Josh. Charlie works at Crush and hopes to become manager one day. INSTANT DESIRE is about Asher and Sean. Asher has loved and lost and is ready to find a relationship. Sean has also loved and lost and yet has closed himself off to the possibility of ever being with someone. And PRIMARY SEDUCTION is about Max and Trent. Max is gay and likes Trent who, as far as everyone knows, is straight. Trent's ex-wife, Trish, has a big role to play in this story and not for good reasons.
Each story was well-written and flowed from beginning to end. I loved the different timeline epilogues we got, and how the stories sometimes overlapped. This happened in books 1 and 2 more than 3. There are steamy scenes as well as ones that are tender and loving -- whichever is being used, it works for the story at that moment.
I would have loved to have heard more about Charlie and Josh as the stories progressed as they really wormed their way into my heart because - although you're not supposed to have favourites - that's what they were!! This was a great box set that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Charlie (19 KP) rated Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in TV

Law of equivalent exchange
Contains spoilers, click to show
I have watched this anime on Netflix a few times and now own the box set on DVD. It has made me laugh, cry, root for a mass murderer (rest in peace Barry the Chopper) and yell "WHAT THE F***!!"
The two most heart wrenching moments in this series for me is Ed screaming for Al to come back and sacrificing a limb to get his baby brothers soul back and the moment the little girl turns into a chimera. "Daddy play?" Always makes me tear up.
In the end Ed and Al get their happy ending, with Ed and Winry getting married and having kids. It's a true testament as tongow much Ed loves Al by the fact he gave up his alchemy to save his brother.
Happy endings might seem a tad cliche but if any characters in any universe deserved it, it was the Elric brothers
Would like to see a spin off tho with Roy mustang and his crew!!!

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated The Blood & Roses Series Box Set (Blood & Roses, #1-6) in Books
Jan 6, 2021
99p for books 1-6? YES, PLEASE! I loved the first two so I'm assuming I'll love the rest, too. Can't wait to get back to Zeth 😃
Okay.
So I've had this on the go for months now, the first few I read like they were nothing and then I started to lose interest. The story wasn't so much about Sloane and Zeth anymore and I just couldn't get into them. I left the box set alone and read other books between stories, sometimes between chapters, because it just wasn't doing anything for me anymore.
And finally I've just given up on any will to read the last part of this six-part series. I can't say I'm at all interested in them beating Charlie.
The fifth book wasn't a total let down for me, what with Zeth actually (finally) expressing a few feelings in words to Sloane but I think if it hadn't been for that, I wouldn't have finished that one either.
