Kevin Phillipson (10072 KP) rated A Clockwork Orange (1971) in Movies

First time I've seen this movie its a good movie sometimes the movie can be rather be disturbing in its depiction of modern youth and its display of violence but still its a masterpiece of cinema. malcolm mcdowell as alex the main character and narrator of the movie and is without a doubt the best thing about the movie. Also when I hear singing in the rain it would be hard not to remember some of what happens in that scene. Overall Brilliant movie

Watched today probably the best action movie I've seen this year so far the action scenes especially shot around Paris are quite amazing and hats off to donnie yen as the retired assassin who knows John wick is brilliant nice to see both ian mcshane and lance riddick in his last role before his but my favourite character goes to shamier Anderson as nobody who's never seen without his dog by his side gets plenty to do and laughs as well overall good action movie

Blazing Minds (92 KP) rated Ghostbusters (2016) in Movies

So let’s get on with my thoughts of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters and it’s female leads, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. For starters, I’m not sure why people are negative towards female lead characters, they do all well together and the laughs certainly come through during the movie. McCarthy is brilliant as Abby Yates with her hysterical one-liners, Kristen Wiig is perfectly suited as Erin Gilbert “Doctor of Particle Physics” (look out for the Harold Ramis cameo, of sorts, in one of her scenes).

A woman tries to do her taxes.
Huh?
Well, that was one absurd movie.
Takes its basis as the good old Multiverse - basically, every decision you have ever made creates a new reality (basically, Terry Pratchett's 'The Trousers of Time'), and starring Michelle Yeoh alongside Ke Huy Quon (Temple of Doom's Short Round), this takes that notion to its extreme.
Some of the martial arts action scenes are brilliant, but you'll probably spend more time than enough trying to work out just what on earth is going on ....

Hazel (2934 KP) rated The Girls on Chalk Hill (Detective Lexi Bennett #1) [Audiobook] in Books

Absolutely gripping and a great start to what I imagine is going to be an excellent new detective series and with a narrator that absolutely nailed it!
Excellent story, gripping plot, brilliant characters, perfect setting, a pace that is spot on with oodles of tension and a narrator that only adds to the suspense.
Definitely recommended and I very much look forward to following this series and thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of The Girls on Chalk Hill.

I’m a massive Stephen King fan and often find that his books fall into two categories; so brilliant that you can’t put them down, or stilll good but somehow lacking his usual brilliant magic.
For the most part, Gwendy’s Button Box falls into the first category. Admittedly this is only a novella, but I couldn’t put it down. It was such an easy read with an intriguing plot and a well developed and likeable main character. There’s just enough intrigue to keep you reading yet it doesn’t explain too much and still leaves you with questions at the end. Any story set in Castle Rock is always a safe bet too. Gwendy is a very likeable character and King always manages to write his child characters well without them seeming too young and childish, which is often a frustration with other books that feature children (especially YA).
My only criticism is that I think this story was far too short. The button box is a great idea and i think they’ve not done it as much justice as it deserves. This could easily have made for a much longer and detailed novel, and would’ve been all the better for it.

Barry Newman (204 KP) rated The Irishman (2019) in Movies

Goodfellas is one of my all time favourite movies so this long awaited reunion of Scorsese, DeNiro and Pesci was a mouthwatering prospect. Whilst not a patch on Goodfellas this was still a very impressive and complex piece of film making. This is some of DeNiro's finest work in years and almost enough to forgive him those bagel adverts. Pacino is brilliant as Jimmy Hoffa and it's simply a joy to have Joe Pesci back on the screen. The deaging effects are very good but not quite 100% perfect, at times the characters have a slightly waxy look about them but you soon get used to them. However I did feel the film was lacking in real standout scenes that would become iconic in years to come like Scorsese's earlier work and was more consistently good than outstandingly brilliant. The 3.5 hour running time was a bit over indulgent as well and could easily have been trimmed a bit. The mammoth running time is also a factor likely to put me off watching it again as often as I would a shorter film. So definitely still much to enjoy and admire here and should definitely be in the running for plenty of awards.
