Merissa (13816 KP) rated Amongst the Chaos in Books
Oct 19, 2020
Amongst the Chaos is a standalone (I think) but could be part of a series. (I hope it is part of a series and I want to more about these guys.) It is also the first book by this author I have read but it won't be the last.
The character building in this book is second to none. It was obvious what was going on between Asher and Chloe but the tense expectation about killed me! It was definitely a case of when and not if. Grayson was a brilliant character who supported Chloe in all ways but wasn't afraid to show his emotions. This was sometimes detrimental to his own cause but he owned it.
Paige and Dom are two brilliant supporting characters, the same as the rest of the 'brothers'. And just because he irritated me, I'd love to know more about Gabe!
This was a great, page-turning story that kept my attention from the very beginning with excellent scene-setting and amazing characters and full of suspense and steam. I loved every moment of this and have no hesitation in recommending it.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Bob Mann (459 KP) rated Apollo 11 (2019) in Movies
Jul 10, 2019
Brilliant documentary footage (1 more)
(Still) nail-biting landing scenes
A giant leap for mankind?
It's the Apollo 11 mission. That's it. No annoying voiceover from Clooney or Gosling spouting truisms (provided you ignore Walter Kronkite's occasional excellent and sonorous TV commentary). Just extraordinary footage from July 1969 of the 8 day mission and the days immediately preceeding (and in the end titles, following) that historic event.
A brilliant documentary that deserves to be seen at the cinema, and on as big a screen as you can manage to find. It only seems to have a limited UK release (I saw it at our local Picturehouse cinema), but it is really worth going out of your way to catch if you can. A film that properly provides you with a view of our blue oasis of a world from afar: and critically what we might be doing to it.
I also thought it should make humanity feel rather ashamed of itself: if man took those great leaps in the 10 years after JFK's famous speech, what has really been achieved in manned space travel in the 50 years since? On Earth's report card it should say "C- .... could do better".

Merissa (13816 KP) rated The Blood King (Inferno Rising #2) in Books
Aug 11, 2020
The Blood King is the second book in the Inferno Rising series and we continue with Skylar and Ladon's story. I would definitely suggest you read this as a series as parts of this story pertain to book one. Also, you would miss out on Brand and Kasia's brilliant story if you didn't read book one!
Abigail Owen has managed to write a story that focuses on the main characters whilst also giving you updates on those you already know, plus giving new information on characters yet to share their story. This is, without any doubt, Skylar and Ladon's book and yet we're kept up to date with Kasia and move forward with Angelika and Meira - whose books I CANNOT WAIT FOR!!!
The settings and individual characters remain absolutely brilliant. I loved how this story wove together Sky and Ladon, highlighting how good they are for each other even though neither of them expected it. The story moves along at a fair pace and the overall story arc is just getting more interesting!
A fun, hot, and gripping book that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Amazing
Absolute brilliant T.V program!!
This old fashioned Netflix original couldn't be more perfect showing every ounce of natural everyday life and problems and how life was for everyone with a secret or goals that were frowned apon.
This starts out following a man and his wife after the war and he is home she falls pregnant but with him not working they are desperate for money and his acting career is yet to start. He manages to get a job at a gas station where he takes his customers to 'dreamland' the program is very cleaver how it introduces the rest of the cast. With people being gay and black it's a struggle for people trying to make it in the big city! It does focus in the gay side quite a bit and gets every side of how life was with the secret parties and how people snuck around. With everyone's dreams coming true they all battle with the real world to get a movie released with a black gay writer and main actress also being black they have alot of people fighting to stop that happening. Brilliant show on how hard it was for people back in the day, very good acting! This is a must see for people who are into a bit of romance and drama!

Merissa (13816 KP) rated Consumed (The Emrys Chronicles #1) in Books
Jul 5, 2021 (Updated Jul 17, 2023)
CONSUMED is the first book in The Emrys Chronicles and we learn about a land with dragons and emrys. But they are part of a different realm, far from the mortal one that has been tainted by darkness. So what happens when the darkness tries to claim a soul that straddles both worlds?
I thoroughly enjoyed this story - from the very beginning, right through to the end. I knew Brenin wouldn't be in it for long, simply because of how the story skipped along. The backstory of the others was brilliant, adding a depth that I enjoyed.
There was plenty of action and adventure here, with a healthy dose of revenge. The big ending caught me by surprise (as it is meant to) but I loved it. The reason for 4-stars and not 5 is simply because of the speed of Aneirin's declaration of love. I would have liked to have seen more development between the two, even though I understood why.
A brilliant start to the series that I can definitely recommend.

Merissa (13816 KP) rated The Complication (Executive Suite Secrets #2) in Books
May 26, 2025
THE COMPLICATION is the second book in the Executive Suite Secrets series, and although you don't have to read Book 1 (Sebastian and Byron), I would definitely recommend it simply because it's a brilliant story!!
This time we meet Declan and Parker, an opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine pairing that is just a way for them to get their rocks off initially. They have been meeting most weekends for a year now, but Parker's life changes in BIG ways all at the same time, which understandably leaves him floundering. While his family are there for him, the one who steps up the most is Declan.
I loved their story! How protective Declan was over Parker, and how it was reciprocated, too. There are moments of realism (Joy's diaper!) and moments of sheer romanticism that made my heart flutter. Parker's mum made me a little grumpy, even though her heart was in the right place, but it all worked out in the end.
A fantastic story with amazing supporting characters and a world I can't wait to return to. Absolutely brilliant and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Dark City (1998) in Movies
Sep 30, 2017
Huge potential but falls short
A strange, weird Sci-Fi/horror. It's not helped by a confusing plot that takes a while to unravel. Featuring a well known cast including the brilliant Ian Richardson who should be in more films and an early small role for Melissa George. It's ambitious and with the right budget could have been amazing. I kinda felt it was trying too hard to be a film ahead of its time. It's not until about half way through things start to make sense, until then the highlight was Melissa George. It could have been a classic but falls a bit short for me.

Daemon is a fantastic host (1 more)
20 questions
Solid knowledge and insight
I have listened to Game scoop for years and every week I know that it will give me a laugh and some great opinions and insights into recent gaming news and events. Marty is always brilliant when he is on the show and I love when the guests play 20 questions and try to guess the listener submitted game. The only downside is Justin Davis, who for some reason is a regular on this show. He is extremely irritating and his taste in games couldn't be further away from my own tastes.
