Merissa (13427 KP) rated Shifter Woods: Growl (Esposito County Shifters #3) in Books
Dec 14, 2022
SHIFTER WOODS: GROWL is the third book in the Esposito County Shifters series, and features Denise (cougar) and Marco (tiger). There is also the dodgy televangelist and a Venezuelan cartel to contend with.
This fast-paced novella doesn't give you much background on our main characters, but what you do get is enough. It is also told in a way that makes it interesting and natural, not just an info-dump. What you do get is a thrilling account of good against bad, of love and romance, of magic and mayhem.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, devouring it in one sitting. I loved being back in Esposito County and look forward to returning there again. A great story and brilliant addition to the series. Definitely recommended by me.

The Demonic ( Supernatural Horror book 1)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Danni thought she knew fear…
But this house will show her what it is to be truly afraid.
Called back to a childhood home, she must lay to rest a father that made her life hell. But something else waits for her in that house. Something far beyond what she could possibly imagine. Restless spirits and an insidious demon ensure this homecoming is one of nightmares.
Can Danni save her family… and her very soul? To do so, she must face the ghosts of her past as well as an ancient and malevolent evil.
You will love this haunted house novel, because who really needs to sleep at night?
So to get the most out of this book read it during the night in the pitch black! Well that’s what I did 😂 got to admit a few times I actually got seriously spooked and had some crazy dreams! A really good haunting of the demonic. I really enjoy Lee’s books another brilliant British horror writer.

Countess Fyodora julianova Korelev is at a loose end. She is feeling no joy in life until she gets asked to help on a case of missing selkies. Whilst on the hunt for them she has a run-in with a Mr Callum Brown who she is very mysteriously taken with. On their journey, they find more than just the selkie they are searching for.
This story is brilliant, I feel like I have been waiting forever for a follow-up from shadow of the swan and it didn't go in the direction I thought it would. The way it has gone is fantastic finding out more about Fyadora is fascinating no wonder she's the hardened woman she is. The hardships that she and Callum have been through could be enough to send somebody insane!
The growth between them is very carefully written the sex scenes are very steamy and intimate. There are battle scenes that are a wee bit gruesome but the detail is all there.
Nicola is a fantastic author and she has done another stellar job well done.

Merissa (13427 KP) rated Flirting with Death (The Hunted #1.5) in Books
May 20, 2023
Flirting With Death is a short standalone story, set in the same world as The Reapers. It can be read before or after as there are no spoilers in here.
I actually enjoyed this one slightly more than The Reapers, I think because there is no triangle. What you get is someone whose time is about up, who acts like a complete jerk, so you actually have no sympathy for him anyway. Then there is Evander, who I loved, and Piper, who was brilliant.
For a short story, this had everything that you need, complete with a HEA (sort of) if you're a sap like me. I would absolutely love this story to be developed into a longer book as I need to know more about Piper and Evander. Definitely recommended.

Pointlessly random
Only the second time I've walked out of the cinema.
I had very high hopes for this film, with an outstanding cast, and cast, and the usually brilliant Wes Anderson behind the wheel.
But it doesn't matter how good a cast is, it needs to be a good film.
Asteroid City is a play within a film, but unfortunately it tells the story of the play, and of the lead up to its opening night. Unfortunately the dynamic of switching between the two different stories really disrupts the flow of what would likely be a an enjoyable story.
Secondly, I know his films can be quite random at points, but a lot of scenes seem to be random for the sake of being random, adding nothing to the film or the story.
Also, only a nitpicky thing, but some of the songs featured during the 1955 scenes (Last Train to San Fernando, Freight Train) were songs that weren't released until 1957.
Overall, a great idea but poorly executed.
