Entropy ( Tessa Avery book 3)
By Lucy Roy
Once read a review will be written via Smashbomb and link posted in comments
Just how much pain can someone experience before they break? How much more loss can they suffer when there's no end in sight?
In the wake of unimaginable tragedy, chaos reigns. Not only have the stakes gone higher with Cronus and his allies attacking from all sides, but there's a new player in the game. Someone I trusted and cared about, someone I called a friend. Not only has he betrayed me, but he's also responsible for taking my best friend prisoner.
As we tirelessly search for answers, Earth has become a battleground. Each day, it seems the moment we get close to solving one problem, another crops up greater than the last, leading us to something not even the Olympians could see coming.
This was just absolutely brilliant! I even felt a tear run down my cheek at the memorial! This trilogy has been such a pleasure to read with amazing characters! I love the idea behind it and love reading what people to with the legendary Greek gods and titans! Would thoroughly recommend!

Merissa (12995 KP) rated The Ballad of Aramei (The Darkwoods Trilogy #3) in Books
Mar 31, 2023 (Updated Apr 10, 2023)
Exhausting; Exhilarating; Shocking; Satisfying; Breathtaking; Epic - just some of the words I would use to describe this book and the series as a whole.
In this book you sort of get two stories overlapping, one concluding and then one starting - both of which will pull you in and keep you reading. I loved how this book rounded things off and tied them all together. There are still twists and turns aplenty so you will definitely not be bored. And one thing that I will say about the ending is that are little "mini" epilogues for the main characters which somehow just seem to fit better than one big one.
I won't write about the storyline as that has already been covered by others. What I will say is that the whole series is one of the best that I have read in a long time - 3 books in 3 days! This series is definitely a keeper and although I have read the Kindle versions, I will be buying the "real" books too! There is a new series coming out this year called The Darksouls Trilogy which I'm hoping will have a couple of familiar faces in there somewhere.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

Merissa (12995 KP) rated Light My Pyre (Everwood Falls #1) in Books
Apr 11, 2023
LIGHT MY PYRE is the first book in the Everwood Falls series - a town of misfits that don't belong anywhere else. I loved meeting the different characters and seeing how they fit together.
Asher and Gwyn have a romance going on but this isn't a romance book. It is a mystery with romantic elements so if you're going for big romance, this is not for you. If, however, you are looking for a page-turning mystery filled with quirky and sometimes heartbreaking characters, then I would definitely recommend you give this a go.
For me, Daisy is the "Star of the Show" without any question. Who doesn't love a funny Wolfhound who loves to eat just one sock out of every pair?
So many characters, so many stories to be told and, hopefully, more than a little romance for each of them. They really deserve it. A brilliant book I thoroughly enjoyed and have no doubt about recommending!

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Merissa (12995 KP) rated Under His Skin (Alien Encounters #1) in Books
Apr 16, 2023
Kaden, Hayden, and Camden are all aliens, seeking refuge here on Earth as their home planet is no more. Kaden was married but his wife was killed as they tried to escape. For over a year now, he has been friends with Annabelle, wanting to be more, but mindful of the rules and regulations that he has to follow, which allow him to stay 'free' on earth. Annabelle is determined to make her own way through life and stand on her own two feet. She is refreshingly direct and does not play games. The interactions between these were hot, albeit I did get whiplash from Kaden a couple of times.
This is well-written and steadily paced, there are moments of sweetness, balanced by downright sexiness! This is the first book in the series and I can't wait for the next. I don't know if it will be Hayden (my favourite, but then I do love me a hot geek!) or Camden. Either way, I know it will be brilliant. Definitely recommended.

Merissa (12995 KP) rated Embrace the Mystery (The Blood Rose #3) in Books
Apr 16, 2023
The third in the Blood Rose Series is dedicated to Quinlan and Batya, both natives of the Nine Realms although Batya left to live on 'mortal' earth, for reasons you find out as the book develops. In fact, it is not only the book that develops, but the series as a whole, as facts come to light and more starts to make sense. There is a name now for the 'big bad', an understanding of what is wanted, and more to the point, what is needed to stop it.
The chemistry is rife between Quinlan and Batya and, although you might think that the timing is wrong, they still manage to make time for each other. And boy, is it hot!
There are appearances from previous characters, as well as from new ones. Some, I'm not sure if they're part of the bigger picture or not, but I still really like reading about them.
This is a brilliant addition to the Blood Rose series and will definitely leave you wanting more. Highly recommended.

Merissa (12995 KP) rated A Subtle Breeze (Southern Spirits #1) in Books
Apr 18, 2023
Zeke was attacked when he came out. For fear of it happening again - either to himself or to those he loves - he has isolated himself and won't even go into his local town anymore. He is trying to run his ranch without having any dealings with the townspeople at all. His younger sister refuses to let him push her away, though, and through her, he meets Brendan. Now I am not a fan of insta-love, but I so desperately wanted Zeke to happy, this didn't bother me at all like it usually does. The romance is fast and hot but is also probably the only way that Brendan would be able to sneak past Zeke's defences.
I really enjoyed this story! It was hot, sad, horrifying and romantic. The mischievous spirit, who only showed up when needed, was brilliant and, together with the reactions from the various people, made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion.
The first book in a series, and I'm really looking forward to reading more. Definitely recommended.

Merissa (12995 KP) rated Lost (The Caelian Cycle #1) in Books
May 5, 2023
This book starts off in a sad place as Sadie deals with the death of her friend/boyfriend, Liam. Her other friends are trying to bring her back to the 'land of the living' as she grieves for her loss. Her friends also include the older brother and also the twin sister of Liam, Michael and Lacy. Sadie is a rare one amongst the Caelian's, in a physical way with her lack of colouring, but also in that she doesn't appear to have a 'talent'.
This story is well-written with a steady pace. It will give you an emotional connection as you empathise with the characters and situations they find themselves in.
This is a fantastic debut novel that has definitely left me wanting more. A brilliant story that grips you from start to finish, you will need to know more about Sadie and Kian. Although this story comes to a satisfying conclusion, it also leads you perfectly into the next book which is due out later this year that I have GOT to read. Highly Recommended.

Phoebe and her disabled husband, Martyn, move into a new house in a village on the edge of County Durham. They plan to lead a quiet existence, a set up that suits them both.
Then Anna, who lives over the road and is bored of spending her days alone, seeks friendship with Phoebe and events take a dark turn.
Phoebe has secrets and is haunted by her past and Anna's arrival in her life may prove to be the catalyst for her undoing.
What is Phoebe hiding and why are she and her husband so reclusive?
When Anna gets caught in a storm and is rescued by Phoebe the truth becomes apparent and Anna is thrown into danger.
Is there a difference between madness and evil?
Some friendships can be murder.
Brilliant! I loved it from start to finish! So well written and kept you interested from the first word to the last. This has to be one of my favourite books that I’ve read in 2021! The story follows a woman with a dark past moving to a small village things soon start going wrong.
