Merissa (12066 KP) rated Blooded in Books
Sep 30, 2021 (Updated Jul 14, 2023)
BLOODED is a standalone novel that I would love to see made into a series. I'm really not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet.
It is a story of two parts, one longer than the other. We start off in school, with Nick and his friends preparing to graduate. Then we move forward ten years and see how their reality (and they themselves) has changed.
I would love to know more about their magic, and how it works. As I've said, I'm not ready for farewells! Their Mentor-of-the-Month was brilliant and it showed how they were resourceful and prepared to take the grey path in order to achieve the greater good. The relationships between all of them were interesting and showed how close they were. They had had good times and bad, and it reflected this.
Nick and Byron themselves were HOT. I thought it very well written how these two slowly transitioned from student-teacher to being on a level, with many adjustments having to be made on both sides. I loved how they were together and, I'll say this just once again, I still need more! This is a series begging to be written!
A wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending.

Merissa (12066 KP) rated Ariadne Unraveled: A Mythic Retelling in Books
Jul 6, 2021 (Updated Jul 17, 2023)
ARIADNE UNRAVELED is a retelling that involves Ariadne (obviously), plus Dionysus, Theseus, Artemis, and so many more.
The story takes various myths and legends and weaves them into one epic story that features betrayal, transformation, friendship, loyalty, and love. Instead of the usual Athenian telling of the Minotaur, we hear from the Minoans themselves. We learn how their women knew things about their own bodies that others didn't. We see how the Minoans were a magical, intelligent race that made mistakes just like any other. And woven through is Dionysus as he feels his way and figures out just who he is.
Wow! Just... wow! What a story. So intricate and rich in detail, I was totally immersed in Ariadne's story. I loved hearing about her - both the big picture and also the small, intimate details that made her life. And, yes, I know this is myth, but with how it has been written, I could see myself there and it all seemed real. There were even tears shed at some points, it was that good! The pacing is perfect and the writing style is smooth.
This is the first book by this author I have read, but I can guarantee you it won't be the last. Absolutely brilliant and highly recommended by me.

Merissa (12066 KP) rated Scorned (The Emrys Chronicles #3) in Books
Jul 5, 2021 (Updated Jul 17, 2023)
SCORNED is the third book in The Emrys Chronicles and this time we travel with Catrin and Meuric through time. Catrin has been pining over Einion and Meuric is determined no one will hurt his sister again. However, when these two find out just when they are, they realise that they need to work together if they are ever to find their way back home.
This continues the story nicely, giving Meuric and Catlin their own space and time to figure things out on their own, without well-meaning but sure-to-be-interfering, families. I thought the history/current aspect of the story was brilliant, giving extra depth to those we have already met in the previous stories.
I will admit to Cat growing on me. She annoyed me in Einion's book and it started off the same way, but she matured and had realisations in this book that helped me warm to her. Meuric was always a star, and my heart broke for the sorrow he has had to live with. I hope both Cat and Meuric have a happy future, but am content with their Happy For Now ending.
This has been a great series that I have loved reading and have no hesitation in recommending either this book or the series as a whole.

Merissa (12066 KP) rated Wishes for Rohi (Jinn and Tonic #1) in Books
Mar 26, 2021 (Updated Aug 2, 2023)
WISHES FOR ROHI is the first book in the Jinn and Tonic series, and we start with Ashley. He is single but longs for a romantic affair, with someone to love him. It is his birthday but even his best friend has forgotten, so he spends most of the evening with a stray cat until his friend remembers and takes him out. There he meets the mysterious Zaire who gives him a night of passion unlike anything before. The morning after though - well, you expect it to be awkward sometimes, but maybe not twin brother turning up saying you are his betrothed awkward. Unfortunately, this is what happens to Ashley, and it looks like he was just a toy for Zaire.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was obvious that Zamir and Ashley shouldn't end up together, but it also looked like they would, even though neither of them wanted it. I was completely enthralled by every word and situation. I loved Nesrina and her down-to-earth abilities and empathy. But for me, the real Queen was Moira! She was brilliant and I loved every scene she was in.
Smoothly written, with characters to enjoy, this is a book I have no hesitation in recommending, and I can't wait to see who is next in this series.

Merissa (12066 KP) rated Unapologetically Me (Offbeat Shifters #3) in Books
Mar 25, 2021 (Updated Aug 2, 2023)
UNAPOLOGETICALLY ME is the third book in the Offbeat Shifters series, but the first one of Charlie and Austin. Charlie was the unreliable pop Divo, who wouldn't take any nonsense, and Austin was Jesse's dad, who made more than a few mistakes when raising his son. This is their story.
And what a story it is!!! I really enjoyed Jesse and Isaac, I did. But these two, wow! I loved their story. It made me smile, it made me laugh, and it also made me cry. I NEED their happy ending! Part of what I loved though, was seeing Jesse and Isaac with the twins, through Austin's eyes, and seeing how he felt about his past.
This is an incredibly well-written story, that has an open ending designed to leave you hanging on for the next book, which I need, like yesterday! The characters are all amazing, with their own interests and foibles to make them more 'human'. I loved how Charlie bakes when he's stressed! And I do so love a flapjack.
This really is a fantastic addition to the series, and I can't wait for more. It was brilliant seeing Jesse and Isaac again, but now I need to know Austin and Charlie get their HEA!

Merissa (12066 KP) rated Riding The Edge (KTS #1) in Books
Mar 15, 2021 (Updated Aug 2, 2023)
RIDING THE EDGE is the first book in the KTS series, and we start off with one helluva story! Dan and Ava had a 'moment' two years ago. Okay, the moment lasted for a week, but nothing since then as Ava firmly pulled up the drawbridge and made sure Dan couldn't climb her walls. Unfortunately for her, Dan is as stubborn as they come, and plays a long game, as he continues to worship her from afar. Add into that betrayal, families gone wrong, action, and all other sorts of craziness, and you've got a story to keep you enticed!
I love how Elise Faber writes. Her style is smooth and will keep you on the edge of your seat in all the right places. This is a slow-burn romance as it simply wouldn't work in the circumstances for anything else. And I loved that. I loved how she played it out, keeping them - and me - wondering what would happen next.
Although this is classed as book one, I do feel like I need Laila and Ryker's story, plus what's the down-low on Daniel? Honestly, I need more! And that, my friends, is the sign of a brilliant author and a greedy reader.
The last chapter leads you nicely onto the next book, which I cannot wait to read. If you like slow-burn romance with plenty of sass, then I can absolutely recommend this book, and I'm sure the whole series!
* Verified purchase from Amazon.com on 9th March 2021. *

Merissa (12066 KP) rated Discovery Moon (Gladstone Shifters #5) in Books
Sep 13, 2022
I was completely swept away in the story...
DISCOVERY MOON is the fifth book in the Gladstone Shifters series and you really need to read this as a series rather than a set of standalones.
Lance has been the nanny for Ben and Evan's pups since they were born and he loves his job. He does dream of having a mate and pups of his own though. Sometimes, you have to be careful what you wish for, as Lance does indeed get a mate and pups but, perhaps, not in the way he imagined.
Told from multiple perspectives, you once again get a well-rounded view of Gladstone and their ties with other packs. This one starts off with lots happening in different places but, slowly, it all comes together.
As with every book in this series, I was completely swept away in the story and the characters. I have laughed with them and cried for them. I've been hopeful and distraught, happy and vengeful. Trust me, by the end, I was exhausted!
A brilliant addition to a series I adore! If you like multiple perspectives, intricate personal storylines, mixed up with others, woven together with mastery, then I can highly recommend this book. But, PLEASE, read them in order!
Absolutely and utterly recommended!

Seraph ( Society book 9)
By Mason Sabre
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Every angel knows that when guarding demons, never, ever leave them alone. Not even for a second …. Amongst the highest ranking in the angelic hierarchy and most revered of all angels, Nina is lucky to be able to call herself one of the Seraphim. She is indeed blessed. Or so she should have been …. Having been tasked with the job of guarding stones in which rogue demons are incarcerated, Nina is decidedly bored. She finds herself wishing for a more exciting life, a more challenging position. She longs to prove herself as a Seraph and earn more respect and veneration. So, when a chaos demon unexpectedly escapes his captivity, Nina takes it upon herself to hunt him down and bring him in on her own. Being subjected to rebuke from the senior ranking Seraphim, or worse, being seen as incompetent, is not an appealing notion. However, as she crosses over into the worldly realm and begins her quest, she discovers things are not as simple as she believed …. If you like fast-paced urban fantasy filled with terrifying demons, powerful angels and dark supernatural forces, then you’ll love the latest novella in Mason Sabre’s Society Series. Immerse yourself in this unusual paranormal world today.
I absolutely love this series! These side stories are so so good! Nina is brilliant I love that we are getting to know the angels now! Definitely a series I’d highly recommend!

Merissa (12066 KP) rated Sloth (Seven Princes of Sin #3) in Books
May 31, 2023
SLOTH is the third book in the Seven Princes of Sin series. It's Linneas' turn and, oh boy, does he have a story to tell. He first senses his mate, Sylvia, as she is being transported to her new quarters to await her new master. He follows, on foot, not knowing what he's going into but knowing his mate is there. Gabriel also follows because Sylvia is his charge. Once these three get together, the story explodes with nuances and emotions, plus a whole load of hotness.
Now, before you do into it thinking it's all hearts and roses, it's not. Most definitely not. This is dark in a lot of places, so if things like abuse, non-consent, underage, slavery, and violence affect you, then this is definitely not the book for you.
This IS the third book and, as such, you really should read it as a series. You will learn things in this book that have relevance to what has gone on before.
I love that the storyline continues to hold my interest, that some of the angels are now questioning, and that as soon as I finish one book, I immediately want the next.
This is a fantastic series, and SLOTH is a brilliant addition to it. Highly recommended by me.

Merissa (12066 KP) rated The Trail Boss and the Brat (Farthingdale Ranch #6) in Books
Mar 22, 2022 (Updated Jun 30, 2023)
THE TRAIL BOSS AND THE BRAT is the sixth and final book in the Farthingdale Ranch series and we finally get Quint's story.
Quint is set in his ways and tells himself that Brody and Kit are all he needs. Ashley, a poor little rich boy-brat, arrives on the scene to shake that belief. Ashley has lost the only person who believed in him and encouraged him to be his own person. She left him a gift of time at Farthingdale Ranch. He books up but doesn't pay attention to what is required of him, leading to a dangerous situation for him and Quint.
This does allow them time to get to know each other, though. Quint realises there may be more to Ashley than he first thought and soon starts to imagine all the possibilities life may be offering him.
This was a great finale to the series and also offered up an answer to what happened to two characters from a book that links to this series. I loved that part! I'd always wanted to know and thought I never would. I will admit to my eyes leaking at that part!
A great end to a fantastic series. Brilliant stories, one and all, and absolutely recommended by me.
