The (miss)adventures of the retired generation... Over the years a who's who of British stars have turned up in this long running show which started by following 3 completely different retired friends but over time developed into following the supporting cast of the village too... Clegg was a mainstay of the trio, Compo was there for many years until the death of the actor playing him and then various different 3rd character - probably the most well known being Foggy... It would be impossible to sum up the escapades they had over 30+ series in a short review but if you want an easy, silly and quintessentially British comedy - this would be the one to go for...

Not a comedy, but a beautiful drama
This is not a comedy. I repeat this is not a comedy. So if you read reviews saying that it is, they clearly have a very dark sense of humour. This is rather a tragically beautiful drama about writers attempting to make morale-boosting WWII movie which eventually ends up more pro-feminist than expected. The film is being made under perilous circumstances during the blitz, so there is a high casualty turnout. It is a romantic film, but not in the usual situation.

The cast includes some of finest British actors, with brilliant standout performances from Bill Nighy, a brief cameo from Jeremy Irons, Richard E Grant, Sam Clafin (Hunger Games, Me Before You), as well as better than usual performance from Gemma Arterton. I shed a few tears near the end. Hats off for showing women's role during the war effort.

Feel like this has been underappreciated
I really find this funny! I'm a huge fan of John Malkovich too, which is coming from someone that had seen Con Air about 10 times before realizing he is Cyrus the Virus!! (Fantastic actor!) Helen Mirren isn't your usual Older British lady either, she's elegant, classy and DEADLY AND BELIEVABLE. It's the right mixture of action and comedy would definitely recommend.

Punchy Kicky Kung Fu Comedy at its best
An Absolute blast, A must watch in Brit Independent Punchy Kicky Kung FU Comedy's. Funny, Bold, Kick Ass, Inventive and a hell of a good way to spend an hour and 40. This movie gave me multiple eyegasms and is strong contender for my Top5 of 2018...
The core cast of seemingly random Misfits are firing on all cylinders with comedic gold but when its time for the action to kick in BritKick superstar in waiting Jean Paul Ly is there to say "Hold my Coat" in some of the best fight choreography I have seen in a Brit movie, so impressive you almost forget there is a comedy here then BOOM your back in the room with these likeable tools. Keep an eye out for Jean Paul, I recently watched Jailbreak on Netflix and damn he is gonna go far.

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

"I’ll start with This is Spinal Tap. It sort of took an American perspective to show the characters and the attitudes surrounding British rock bands in the 1970s and 1980s, which, I guess, was what it was supposed to be, and I just thought the characters drawn were so excellent. And yet, it was odd, because everyone involved was American. You’d think it’d be just the kind of thing that some British writers or comedians could’ve done better, but clearly we didn’t. And I thought Christopher Guest, et al., did it fantastically well. It’s just always a kind of reassuringly funny film. The best comedy is watching humans interact, and people with their own petty ambitions, and self delusions, and all that sort of stuff. And that movie is absolutely brim full of it. If they say that comedy is essentially exaggerated truth, that was almost the perfect exemplar of it, where it’s almost a documentary. Well, it is obviously a mockumentary, but you don’t have to exaggerate much for it to become inherently comic. So that’s kind of what it is. It’s a perfect exaggeration, but exaggerated not very much."

"Along with Airplane, An American Werewolf in London, and Raising Arizona, this film is one that I can silently mouth along with every single line of. I don’t know if Reiner, Guest, McKean, and Shearer could have ever known back in 1984 quite how far-reaching the influence of this movie would be. As a British director who made his start in TV comedy, I can vouch for the fact that this film is one of the key texts for every single UK comedy writer, actor, and director of my generation. The fact that it was performed by American actors doing killer English accents just makes that all the more impressive and ironic. So I cannot overestimate its position as an unassailable comedy classic. Along with Monty Python’s Life of Brian (also on Criterion) and Mike Leigh’s 1976 TV movie Nuts in May, it really became one of those movies that create strong bonds in creative partnerships. You either liked Spinal Tap or you were not worth talking to; it became that simple. And quite right too. It’s eighty-four minutes of comedy heaven."
