Connie (244 KP) rated Scythe (Arc of a Scythe #1) in Books
Sep 14, 2018
I steuggle with finding books that really draw me in. As a fast reader, I also strugfle with page count, and I hate books that are predictable. Scythe fit me needs, and the exceeded them.
In a world where death is a myth and the Thundercloud (today's "cloud's" big brother) rules, it seems that no one could live a less-than-perfect life. But with humans able to "turn the corner" and become young again, where will the new blood go?
Enter the Scythes. Killing machines wrapped in rainbow colors, they glean the sould of others based on statistics of how people would have died in the Age of Mortality. But Scythe Farraday has changed the game--instead of just one apprentice, he has taken two. Now Citra and Rowan have a choice to make... Because there is only one ring to be granted.
This was a stunning un-put-downable book that kept me enthralled, guessing, and truly bound up in its pages. If you haven't read this yet, give it a shot!

OMG this book!? BEAUTIFUL love story... Read it in one sitting!? Danika (aka Dani) is the baby of the family, the only one still single and the one that oldest brother, Zander, is most protective of. It surely can't be good that her childhood crush happens to be Zander's best friend Zach. After obsessing over Zach since she was fourteen, she finally admits her feelings to Zach and they find themselves hiding.. Something that could be the one thing that tears them all apart. Surrounded by good friends and family, you can't help but fall I love with every one of the characters in this book... Abi, Dani's best friend and roommate KILLS me... Zach and Dani are adorable together and their constant banter and comments had me laughing my a$$ off. I bawled my eyes out, my heart breaking for them as they struggled through it all and I was a mess of happy tears by the end. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended book and can't wait for the next in the series!
Cori June (3033 KP) rated Blood Trade (Jane Yellowrock, #6) in Books
Dec 3, 2018 (Updated Nov 8, 2019)
This one is lower mostly because she gets really emotional (for good reasons) and is more "alone time". One of the things I love about most Jane Yellowrock books is the interactions between her and the other characters especially her and Eli. This seems like a "builder book" a book to set the story up for something else. Although, it has a lot of elements of "placement book" too; as in, let me place this book here to give some background information on a couple of characters. I would have liked more background on Jane although it was fun to see her interact with people from her past. The is still that three way triangle thing with Bruiser and Rick. As well as where Eli fits into the structure of friend/romantic partner/business partner/brother type. The romance parts, well, it's all a little understated when compared to the previous books this one being more of a hack and slash version. And there is very little of the fang head Leo.
Awix (3310 KP) rated Three Identical Strangers (2018) in Movies
Dec 6, 2018 (Updated Dec 6, 2018)
Typically arresting so-weird-it-must-be-true documentary from the distributors of Blackfish, Dinosaur 13 and Life Animated. In 1980 a young man from New York arrives at college to be told he is the spitting image of someone who was there the year before: it turns out they were both adopted and share the same birthday - long lost brothers! The publicity turns up a third identical brother. The triplets instantly become minor celebrities on the NYC scene, but darker questions about their story soon surface...
A remarkable story, told by the surviving participants - lighter moments of uplifting human interest are soon subsumed by the stuff of an X-Files episode (well, close enough). You could very well argue that the film's narrative is rather selectively framed for maximum impact, and its attempts to address wider issues such as the question of nature vs nurture aren't really as effective as the story of the triplets. But still a gripping, thought-provoking, rather unsettling story that deserves to be better known.

Awix (3310 KP) rated Spectre (2015) in Movies

Sometimes when you make a cake using an unexpected or unusual ingredient and it turns out to be a really good cake, you jump to the wrong conclusion and assume the success is just down to that one thing. So with the next cake you pile the secret ingredient in recklessly and, probably, are very surprised when something rather less palatable is the result. So it is with Skyfall and SPECTRE; a little bit of psychological complexity and gravitas undeniably adds something to the Bond formula. Going overboard on these things just produces a film which feels joyless and slow. This is before we even get to the preposterous revelations about Bond's long-lost adoptive brother.
Some quite good action bits and of course it all looks nice, but all the elements that feel like classic Bond are handled in an oddly perfunctory way and the ending really doesn't work at all. One gets the feeling, not for the first time in recent years, that the makers of this film would rather be working on something other than an actual Bond movie.

Lindsay (1717 KP) rated It's Murder, My Son (Mac Faraday Mystery #1) in Books
Jun 21, 2019
We meet Mac Faraday for the first time. He does from a divorcee to being rich in a matter of a few days or weeks. He is caught to be told he had inherent the Spencer manor at Spencer point. What a change from living in middle class.
Once he arrives, there been a murder for him to solve and he meets his neighbors and half brother. What a mystery of a neighbor and he end up with owning the dog. The author does a wonderful job of introducing us to the main characters.
This case seem to be break open once Mac shows up and what up with the police chief? He seem like he trying to keep the murders a secrets and what ever happen to him? There seems to be quite a few murders on the lose?
It seems his mother, Robyn try to help by giving her son a journal. Want to guess who comes with the house? I think this is planned by his mother a bit. Who to know for sure.

A classic
Pretty much everyone I know within my similar generation absolutely loves this film, even one me and my brother both agree on, which is unusual.
This is still one of the best and scariest sci-fi horror films I’ve seen since this was originally released. It’s dark, ominous and full of blood and gore. The effects at the time were very good, although admittedly they haven’t aged as well watching it back now and some of the CGI especially looks a bit dodgy. It has a fantastic cast, it’s one of my all time favourite Sam Neill films and you can’t really go wrong with Jason Isaacs and Sean Pertwee either. The plot is fairly straight forward but very creepy, and this will always be the film that spawned the pencil through paper wormhole explanation (sorry Interstellar).
This film isn’t perfect by any means and has sadly not aged as well as it should, but for me it’s still one of my favourites and a true classic sci-fi horror, not far off the likes of Alien etc.

Mumble Mumble Mumble Part 2
This one, this one to me is the best one out of all three of them. It has more action, more comedy, more one-liners and more mumbling is that a good thing probley not because you cant understand one who that their saying.
The Plot: Mercenary leader Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) and the rest of the Expendables team reunite when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) hires them for a seemingly easy job. But things go terribly wrong, compelling the mercenaries to seek revenge for a comrade's murder. With the odds against them, Barney and his team are hell-bent on payback and cut a path of destruction through opposing forces, only to encounter an unexpected threat: six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium.
Is Bruce and Arnold in this one more yes their are and their say each other's one-liner's to each other. Its really funny.
So which 80's star is in this one? Liam Hemsworth, who? Oh the brother of Chris Hensworth.
Anways its a great time and fun to watch.

David McK (3414 KP) rated The Avengers (2012) in Movies
Mar 26, 2020
Known in the UK as 'Avenger's Assemble' (to avoid confusion with the other Avengers film!), this was the first of the MCUs big-screen cross-overs, bringing Captain America, Tony Stark/Iron Man, Bruce Banner/The Hulk (here played by Mark Ruffalo instead of Ed Norton), Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye (and not forgetting Agent Coulson, pre TVs Agents of SHIELD!) all together for the very first time to face off against Thor's brother Loki, returned from the (supposed) dead and at the head of an army of Chitauri - with the post-credit sting revealing, for the very first time, just how is the 'big bad' behind the entire thing!
That 'Battle of New York' at the end of the film would have further ramifications down the line in both the movie and TV side of things for Marvel, with the (not shown here) clean up activities afterwards even providing the impetus for one of the newer (at the time of writing) releases, in Phase III's Spiderman: Homecoming

Max and Kendall have known each other most of their lives. But each of them has feelings for the other, but they don't know. After the opening night of Kendall's new roller rink, they decide that they are going to have a Bootyogomy. No strings attached, but they are the only ones they call for late night nookie. When Kendall finds herself in trouble, Max is there to rescue her as always. Will they keep their bootyogomy or will it become something more serious.
I had to get this book since I was gifted with other books in the series. Frankie Love and C.M. Seabrook write quick steamy books that you can get through in less than an hour. I read this one before bed last night.
When Max lost his family, he moved in with Kendall and her brother Grady who is Max's best friend. Kendall and Max have pined for each other since that time, but never did anything because of Grady. But now is their chance. They are both adults and are doing exactly what they want to be doing.
