Jay Wright (4 KP) rated Avengers: Endgame (2019) in Movies
May 13, 2019
Speechless. I am completely and utterly speechless. What a WAY to end a culmination of 22 movies over the span of 11 years! I was blown away by every little detail! The PLOT was amazing, the ACTING was amazing, the SETS were amazing, the GRAPHICS were amazing. Actually, no, amazing is an incredible understatement. I would strongly argue that this is a prime example of what a perfect movie looks like. It didn't feel like I was sitting through a three hour movie, if anything the three hour running time HELPED it achieve it's true potential. There was a perfect combination of wit, humour, sadness, joy, and overall satisfaction. The Russo Brothers have outdone themselves once again and set the bar EXTREMELY high to what a good movie should look like. I've said it once and I'll say it again: Avengers: Endgame is the movie of our generation.

Great supplement to the trilogy
This collection of short films, some of which were written by the The Wachowski Brothers, is a great set of stories as both prequel and supplement to the Matrix trilogy of films. They show various wars and clashes between humans and the robots they created to the basis of forming the Matrix itself which exists in the live-action version.
The animation is really bright and eye popping and reminded me of Ghost in the Shell or even Samurai Jack at times. Some of the stories were a little too close to the trilogy while others really went in their own direction. Others reminded me of other genre films including District 9 or even War of the Worlds.
I liked the fast paced style of animation in some and others let the stories develop a little more.
For those Matrix movie fans I think you would thoroughly enjoy this!

A little too over the top
I think I completely lost the plot trying to follow this fairytale within a fairytale. A modern day version of a Brothers Grimm-style folklore, the story follows Alice, who is trying to find her missing mother, and discovers that all is not what it seems.
The main thrust of the novel asks whether Alice is a character in a tale herself? And if she can escape her fate by running away from her story. And while I can appreciate the author's creativity, there's very little character development and there appears to be a fair few loose ends. The prose is heavy in metaphors to the point that the first half seemed far too long.
While many have described the book as a dark and creepy fantasy, I think it may have been a little overhyped - it's more of a weird version of Alice in Wonderland. Interesting, but not for me.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2478 KP) rated Time's Up (Maisie McGrane Mystery #1) in Books

Maisie is set to follow in the footsteps of some of her older brothers and her father and become a cop. That is until she fails the psych evaluation. So she decides to prove she can handle being hated by becoming a meter maid. But can she really handle the job?
This was a mixed bag. First of all, it is not a mystery. The dead body and who killed him is a poorly handled sub-plot at best. However, the coming of age aspect I did enjoy at times. At other times, it was slow. Likewise, some of the characters never rose above cliché while others were lots of fun. There’s potential for some good stories here, but this book isn’t at that level yet.
NOTE: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

We're on a mission from God!
If you ever just want to put yourself in a good mood, put on The Blues Brothers. There is really something for everyone in it.
Do you like musicals? Do you like car chases (one of the most epic of all time)? Do you like comedies? Do you like epic road films? Do you like Carrie Fisher with a flamethrower?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the film for you.
After his brother Jake gets out of prison, Elwood Blues and his newly freed brother visit a church where they discover it is going to close unless they can raise enough money to keep it running. Through a profound religious experience, Jake discovers he must get his old rhythm and blues band back together to raise money for this noble cause.
The film truly is perfect in every way!

Alicia S (193 KP) rated Reclaimed (Angel's Halo MC #4) in Books

I absolutely fell in love with this series from page 1! Incredible MC series that follows so many great characters where the guys are all just a bunch of big softies for their women. ;-) I love everyone in this group.. the brothers are tough, alpha bikers who would do anything to protect their women and families. The ladies have all gone through so much and are all so different but all such interesting characters each with crazy stories and pasts of their own.
I've said this in past reviews throughout this series but what I love the most about it is that it follows everyone.. one book does not just cover one character or couple, but you are able to follow along with everyone's story throughout. LOVE IT! I've laughed and cried, feeling so close to these characters and am so sad I've finally reached the end. CAN'T WAIT for more books in this series!! HIGHLY recommended!!

Merissa (13749 KP) rated Brothers In Arms in Books
Dec 17, 2018
Brothers in Arms Anthology has a military streak running through it, to no ones' surprise! Most of them are in a contemporary setting, but one has a distinctive Science Fiction feel to it. They aren't just M/M either, there are Ménage Moments too.
All of the stories are very well written, considering the scope of a short story. I would love to see some of them expanded into full-length stories! Some of these authors were already known to me, but some were new and I will definitely be reading more.
I enjoyed all the stories, but if I had to pick a favourite, it would be either One Night With You or Would You Wait For Me? Definitely recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

Tim McGuire (301 KP) rated The Salvation (2015) in Movies
Jan 25, 2020
382. The Salvation. A bad-ass western featuring Mads Mikkelsen! Jon Jensen has been waiting for his wife and son to make their way to America during the 1870s. Jon has been there for a while building a life. And on the very day they arrive, they are murdered. Jon takes swift action and violently kills these two pieces of shit. Unfortunately, one of those pieces of shit has a big brother named Henry that pretty much runs the town through fear and taxes. So when Henry hears of his brothers murder, he wants his own revenge. And sure they go out and find Jon pretty easily and take him in. They quickly realize that a man with nothing to lose, is gonna fight back! Like I said Mads is awesome! Jeffrey Dean Morgan is great as the bad guy Henry. And Eva Green, sure she doesn't say one word in the movie, is freaking great! Like Westerns? This is one to check out!! Filmbufftim on FB
