What a stroke of genius
This series of short animated films is one of the best collections I have seen in a long time, the stories range from comedy to serious drama and even if you aren't a massive fan of animation, there is still a story for you, with the realist animation I've seen in a long time. Give it a go you just might like it.

Just Another Shock-Value Game
I am confident that this game will be forgotten about one year from now, gathering dust at the back of many collections. When you substitute shock for creativity, you are left with a game that loses its appeal very quickly.
I know many people look back at their first game of Cards Against Humanity fondly. But once you have heard your 40th "Hitler's Penis" joke, you realize that there are much better games that you could spend your time with.

Sara Cox (1845 KP) rated Aphrodite Made Me Do It in Books
Jun 28, 2019
I was really surprised by this book. It's a collection of poetry, prose and inspirational artwork. I was really drawn in to the first collection, written as if by Aphrodite herself. The following collections were more personal and hit so many chords for me - they are about being a woman, about worries, about abuse, about relationships with other people, about relationships with yourself and about sexuality. A lot in there was so truthful and raw. Things that need to be said. I actually feel lighter for reading them, as if they have enabled me to let go parts of myself that weighed me down. I would usually turn away from books like this, but I'm glad that I managed to get a copy and read it.
Lenard (726 KP) rated Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019) in Movies
Aug 21, 2019
Yesterday, I saw the movie based on the series of short story collections that inspired future makers of horror. It affected me so deeply that I decided to skip a Rifftrax screening. The actual film collects multiple horror tropes: haunted house, creepy hallways, reanimated corpses, spiders, supernatural serial killer, books. Most of the stories startle, but never terrify. The creature designs are phenomenal. The ending is kind of a letdown after all the thrills. However, one story completely disturbed me. Not the story or the creature, but the style. It used a lot of anticipation and narrative, but never showed much of the horror. It just built up tension and had one huge scare leading to a horrifying "ending" for one of the characters.

Well written but didn't exactly hook me
I've read collections of short stories before but never have I cared less about what happened in them than I did here. The stories are loosely collated with an overall additional story over the top of them. The stories have something of a fairytale feel to them (one an alternate telling of Beauty and the Beast, another like Snow White gone bad, yet another has a tough of Rumpelstiltskin to it), but most invariably include some heaving cleavages and women that throw themselves at the hero.
The stories are well enough told but it may be the translation that left me struggling to concentrate on the story and my attention wandered. A very short book, this took me longer to read than it should have.

ArecRain (8 KP) rated Crochet One-Skein Wonders for Babies: 101 Projects for Infants & Toddlers in Books
Jan 18, 2018
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
A great collection of patterns for crocheters of any level. Dont worry about being able to read the patterns because they are simple and straightforward with great images to accompany them. I love collections like this because there are so many patterns to choose from and they have such a wide variety, I dare you to find less than 5 things you want to crochet! Not to mention they are adorable as all get out. The best part? You require only 1 skein or less of yarn to make each project. Its perfect for those who need a quick project or want to make something for all those little babies in (or about to be in) their lives.
