Taylor Cattes (6 KP) rated Bossa No Sé by Cuco in Music
May 28, 2019
Cuco, a Chicano artist from California, blew himself right out of the water with this hit. He has been planning on collaborating with Jean Carter for a while and it has been worth the wait. This song shows the conflict of feelings with an individual who has screwed you over but you still love them because love is complicated. I would definitely recommend listening to this song or even listening to Cuco's interesting musical style at least.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2067 KP) rated Poster Art of the Disney Parks in Books
Mar 9, 2018
As you'd expect, this is a collection of the poster art from the Magic Kingdom parks over the world and over the decade from the founding of Disneyland up to some of the recent posters in California Adventure. As a fan of the posters, I loved looking at them and am thrilled to have this book.

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Murder at the Mansion in Books
Feb 21, 2018
Like Kelly, I always imagine all of California as being warm and sunny. The northern California setting was a new one for me, and I loved the idea of the cozy B&B and Inn along the coast. There is a great supporting cast to help Kelly solve the crimes at Redwood Heights. I think Id like to spend an evening hanging out with the Silver Sentinels, as they call themselves. With plenty of misdirection to keep me guessing, I found this to be an entertaining read.
There are lots of returning characters in this story. I admit, it took me a little while to get them all straight in my head! While the mystery was enjoyable on its own, since this is only the second book in the series, Id suggest starting back at the beginning if youre going to give this one a try.
NOTE: I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and comments are my own.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2067 KP) rated The California Roll in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Radar Hoverlander makes his living as a con man. But when he meets a beautiful woman who wants him to help her grandfather run a scam, he may be in well over his head. This was a fun caper out of my normal cozy realm. Plenty of twists and some characters I could like even if they weren't normally the bad guys.

Dann Peters (0 KP) rated 20th Century Women (2017) in Movies
Feb 12, 2019
A slice of life
20th century women is a slice of life film based in California in the 1970s, there will be characters you dont like and some you do but that is because they are 3 dimensional and designed to be that way, I am at a point on my life where I am thinking about starting a family and this film showed me it was okay to be scared because no one knows what they are doing and it's part of the process
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2067 KP) rated Booby Trap (An Odelia Grey Mystery, #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Odelia Grey's friend thinks her son might be the Blond Bomber, a serial killer who has been terrorizing Orange County, California. Odelia's gut says the killer is someone else, but can she prove it before the killer strikes again? As always, the characters seem like real people and the plot moved forward quickly. I had a very hard time putting the book down.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2067 KP) rated A Deadly Bone to Pick in Books
Feb 23, 2022
Unfortunately, I Have a Bone to Pick with This Debut
Molly Madison and her dog have relocated to Pier Point, California, and she is looking forward to starting all over. However, she has not completely unpacked before a dog she is dog sitting uncovered a hand in the sand of a nearby beach. With the police looking at Molly as a suspect because of a scandal in her past, she has to figure out what is going on. But if she doesn’t even know her neighbors, can she do that?
I picked up this book because of the Southern California setting, and I loved that. Even though Pier Point is fictional, I could easily picture it. I also enjoyed meeting Molly and the rest of her neighbors. They are slightly eccentric, but not so over the top that they didn’t still feel real. There are plenty of dogs, and they are equally charming. Unfortunately, the pacing of the book is very off. It was slow in the beginning, focusing on Molly settling into her new life. The ending, while logical, was rushed. That kept me from fully enjoying what was a promising debut.

Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated The Birds (1963) in Movies
Feb 9, 2018
Death from above
A rich woman (hedren) who is really in love with her beau (taylor) follows him to a remote town in California where out of no where all kinds of birds from small to large begin to attack and reek havoc on the towns people.
Out of the mind of Hitchcock comes one of his more scarier tales. From what I have read that after the first screening of the movie a lot of the viewers screamed when a flock of birds happened to fly over them
