"I was very fortunate. My dad was a musician, he would take me around to recording studios in Houston. I got to hear some really rippin’ stuff at a very young age. There were all of these rambunctious country artists and guys playing this hod-rod hillbilly music. It blew my mind, as you can imagine. Well, one day we to went ACA Studios, and I got to see BB King play. I must’ve been about seven years old. What a trip! “Needless to say, he made a big impression, and later on, I got ahold of this record, which has always been one of my favorites. Something about it just resonates. The lead lines that BB plays are chilling. Although it’s called ‘Singin’ The Blues,’ on this album I think the guitar really comes to the fore as a strident solo instrument. “It’s often been said that Billy could do more with one note than most guitarists can do with 100, and I think it might have started right here. He had developed his technique so fully - it was so unique and elegant – that he was able to play these ‘blue’ notes on songs that even had almost cha-cha beats. This is a record I never have to rediscover because it never went away"

"Iggy's probably my favourite singer and I was thinking about choosing one of his solo records, but when you see my next one you'll probably figure out why I didn't choose that. Again, what can you say about Fun House? It's just so primal, a rock & roll record, and I can't think of anything like it. From the box set you can tell that it didn't just appear, they worked incredibly hard to get it that good, take after take after take. It's just amazing, totally powerful. To be able to capture something that probably was more of a live experience and make it sound like they're in the room with you… one of my neighbours has got a ludicrous stereo, and we'll just listen to Fun House, insanely drunk, on his stereo. It's almost like you're there, melting your face. It was a fun night… you should come round, it happens most Fridays. That's how countryside life in Scotland goes."

"The reason I love it is it’s the ultimate adaptation. You know, memes coming out in your films. This guy makes a film every two, three years, is making, making, making, and all the money goes away and they come to him and they say, “Okay, you can make it for TV. You can make whatever you want,” and he walks up to a building complex and he goes right, The Ten Commandments in that building. How do you do that? He makes 10 movies in a year — three of them I think they released later on as features. And you look at them and they have the balls of a student movie, like a short film about killing. It’s just all about the process. It isn’t about hanging the guy or not hanging the guy, it’s just what it takes to hang a guy. And just stuff like that, that I just think, “How do you do that?” I don’t think it’ll ever happen — at least in my lifetime."
