Alison Pink (7 KP) rated A Storm of Swords: Part 1 Steel and Snow (Reissue) in Books
Jan 15, 2018
So far, this 3rd book has been my favorite of the series. It is very suspenseful. There are lots of deaths, so many that at one point I thought, "How can this series possibly keep going?" But as usual, George R.R. Martin has tricks up his sleeves. And let me say, that I didn't see any of them coming at all!

LOL
This story has it all. Vamp, demons, fairies, angels and even a horny little old man. What more can anyone ask for. This book is a laugh a minute. You have to love Robyn's sense of humor. I have to say I loved the babies demons Rachel, Ross, Beyonce and Honest Abe. Keeping my fingers crossed that book two comes out fast.

Gripping
I can honestly say this is one of the best new shows I've watched recently. The cast a amazing and the visuals are fab. If you read the books you won't be disappointed like the movie. The story develops at a good pace and so far never feels rushed. Each episode leaves you wanting to know more. I would really recommend

One thing I can say for this: the author seemed to know what she was talking about with this be it the lingo or the action. In truth I was more into the action elements than the romance. And that is why it's only getting three star, because I'm a romance reader and it didn't hold my attention that much.
Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) in Books
Apr 27, 2018
I had heard so much about Beautiful Creatures since it came out, but I really wish I'd skipped this one. It's just another gothic teen romance, authors jumping on the bandwagon that Stephenie Meyer made of the dark scary character and big entrancing eyes and inhuman beauty and absurd chemistry. Nothing happened in the first few chapters, the descriptions were repetitive and strange, the characters were stereotypical, and the dialogue was boring.
The only good thing I had to say was that the small town they described in the book really did sound like a small town (and I can say that because I live in one).
Oh, and the reader of the audiobook was good.
Other than that, honestly, it was just Twilight except Edward Cullen was a girl.
Content/Recommendation: I didn't read enough to be able to say, though honestly if you're going to read a 500-page novel, read Crime and Punishment or The Count of Monte Cristo.

I can honestly say that I did not enjoy this book. For me, Charles Dickens' works are all very repetitive. There's an orphan who continuously falls onto bad times, then suddenly figures things out and gets his life turned around. Everything happened too slowly and was way too drawn for me or it was important information told in passing. The chapters jump around a lot so it can get confusing temporally. There are too many characters with similar names to keep track of. Overall, I didn't enjoy this novel.
ArecRain (8 KP) rated Asena Blessed (The Chronicles of Altaica, #2) in Books
Jan 18, 2018
Its taken me longer than I would like to admit to write this review, but that is only because I feel that I cannot properly express what I truly want to say.
In reality, I feel there is little I can say that I didnt say about Altaica. The characters are well written, the world interesting, reminiscent of Tolkien and the like, and the storyline engaging. However, while I loved Altaica , Asena Blessed completely blew it out of the water. After reading Asena Blessed, I realize that Altaica is just a tease, the tip of the iceberg. Its like comparing a shake to a sundae. Both are delicious, but there are more ingredients to enjoy in the sundae. The characters, geography, and plot introduced in the first novel are more developed and fleshed out. We learn more about the mythology and event going on in the world the story is set in.
Normally, I dont like cliffhangers, but with Joyces Altaicas it just makes me hunger for more. I read it in one sitting and I felt like I lost a friend once I finished Asena. I cannot wait for the next installment. If you are a fan of Tamora Pierce, you will love this series.

Should Have Waited For DVD Release
My daughter and I love horror so we knew this was a must see for us. I can honestly say that I should have waited for it to be on DVD so I could have saved some money as this movie left me feeling unsatisfied. I got more of a kick in watching people jump out of their seats when they got startled. Maybe I just expected more of this movie than I got? Instead of being scared I found myself laughing.....yes.... I am quite disappointed by this one.
