Crazy Story of Survival
Every time I read a book like this I realize how very dead I would be if I ever got lost in the woods! Put me up in the wilderness of Canada or Alaska and throw me in complete darkness and snow - and forget it - I MIGHT last 5 minutes.

Jess is alone. Her mother dies in a car crash, severely injuring here and now she's got no-one. She's only 16, and is in turn, forced to go live with her estranged father who she hasn't seen in about 12 years. Dad is a homesteader, and off-the-grid, he hates the government, and is living off the land. They are out in the middle of nowhere in the rough Canada wilderness, and this life she's dumped into, is a harsh shocking reality. But then something goes horribly bad. Her father is dead. And Jess is alone. Cue me freaking out!

We read through journal entries Jess writes about her life with her mom - before. Her brief time with her dad - before. And then we reach - after. Where Jess has no-one but a loyal dog-wolf hybrid, named Bo, and her own sheer willpower. Will she survive the winter in Canada? How will she eat, stay warm, and even just survive walking through the wilderness when her body is still hurting and broken. And who killed her father?

This was an easy breezy read that had me sucked in front start to finish. The writing is really good and I enjoyed the suspense and found myself rooting for Jess (and Bo!) to survive. A really good book.

The 3rd installment of the series but a prequel with a period setting. Set in 19th century Canada it shows the origins of the curse. A nice idea and good that the same 2 actresses are used in all films. It reminded me a bit of the 4th Tremors film that also acted as a prequel. However the first film is much better with an edgy modern day setting. Ok as werewolf films go, the costumes for them are pretty cool, but overall the film was fairly average.

Plenty of accurate cultural and time period related storylines
Interesting and diverse characters
Rare gem
The movie revolves around one hotel room over the case of several decades, from its inaugural tenants, to a chilling scenario on New Year's Eve of the new millennium. A masterpiece from Canada which is a rare find but totally worth it.

"The father of a good friend of mine back in Canada used to own a video store in the VHS days. Once it closed down, he let me pick from a bunch of leftover, discarded movies nobody else wanted, which led me to my VHS copy of this that I still own (with Ronald Reagan on the cover!). Though they’re both great, I prefer this 1964 version to the 1946 version, largely due to its unique focus on the story through the hit men themselves (though I’ve never read Hemingway’s original story)."

"Don’t shoot! I know this picture is corny and sexist but nobody loves the whole “She-warrior in an iron bikini riding a snow leopard over her smited bloody fallen foes” more than me. You need to understand what a true cheese dealer I am. Heavy Metal is nothing if not living, breathing boogie van art. And what’s wrong with that? John Candy as Den of Earth?! Oh Canada! It came out when I was very young and I watched it a million times. It made me look at animation a whole other way and it had Black Sabbath in it! Dio AND Black Sabbath! So Rad!"

Political and Correctness were the two words far from writers Parker & Stone when they created this feature length satirically biting look at life through the eyes of Cartman and his friends.
Cursing is the topic on the menu and Canada is to blame (isn't it always) and the profanity on show here although extreme and extended is no different to the controversial hit show of the same.
It's incredibly and consistently funny and I can see how it would appeal to some, just not this reviewer as the humour on show just was not the kind that amuses me, and differs from the, in my opinion, far superior Team America.

One great song after another!!!
Ryan Upchurch is a Rap Country artist with amazing talent!
He can literally perform every genre. While typically known for his Rap Country hits, he decided to branch out and explore the Grunge/Rock genre and has turned the genre on it's ear.

This album dropped 4/20/2018 and, in less than an hour, was sitting pretty at #3 on the US iTunes Rock charts!
Within 3 days, it was sitting in the Top 10 iTunes Rock charts in Australia and Canada.
As of last week, it was Trending in iTunes at #3, whilst Cardi B sat at #7.
Everyone needs to check this guy out!

I received a copy of The Evil Queen from Harlequin TEEN (US Canada) through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to like this one more than I actually did.

The righting is great and a lot of it is really evocative but the character of Every came off as about 12 or so. Her reactions didn't strike me as realistic for a high schooler at all.

The dialogue is a bit cheesy at points but I'm not gonna complain to much because what's a fairy tale without some cheese?

I did enjoy the story but the sensual parts did come off a bit awkward to me on account of the MC seeming so young.

You can hear The Lumineers and Imagine Dragons just from the vocal mix, the heavy acoustic guitar, and the way the production doubles every harmony. Somehow the breaks always have oh-oh-oh and the melody flitters like a sparrow, but it still works. It's the simple message that says it all.

“It’s been a couple years
now I have scars to remind me
it can take a while
to get the wounds to heal”
— Jeffrey Piton
Jeffrey lives in Montreal, Canada, land of cold winters, sweet summers, and salty poutine. We think after he drops his new EP today he going to feel pretty good even if he has a few scars left from the experience.

So many exclamations!!!! (0 more)
A good story about a teen who recently lost her dad and copes with her grief by joining Raven the trickster of the NW US and Canada. They go on an journey to heal the lay lines of the world in the far near future.
I'd recommend it for kids that are wanting something YA but aren't ready for the mature sex and violence that is typical for most YA whose protagonist is 15 or older. Not that there isn't some hard discussions or danger. Mostly the biggest thing about it is the MC likes to think and sometimes talk in exclamations! It gets a bit tiring accurate or not.
