Tearjerker, exploring a young boy's grief
This was an unexpected little gem of a drama showing how a boy, who is having to deal with tremendous trauma, manifests his grief.

From being bullied, abandoned and dealing with a mother dying from cancer, one day a monster in the form of a tree visits him to reveal various tales with a moral context. These come in the form of beautiful animations, not too dissimilar from The Three Brothers sequence in one of the final Harry Potter films. What we have to establish is whether the boy is actually encountering this monster or whether it is part of his repressed emotions.

Acting from the entire cast including Felicity Jones and more so the young child actor was fantastic. An interesting watch.

A powerful story of two sisters
The Last Confession of Autumn Casterly hooked me from the first chapter. The sisters Ivy and Autumn lost their mother to cancer three years ago, and their father has remarried. Ivy is a nerd girl band geek and Autumn is the “bad girl”, dealing drugs and getting into trouble. They barely communicate, but when Autumn is kidnapped, Ivy knows something is very wrong and does not give up on Autumn despite others assuming that Autumn’s disappearance is just due to her own bad behavior. This book is a well written thriller with excellent characters, and skillfully explores the bond between the sisters, friendships, and families. The author also examines how girls’ lives are valued less than those of boys. It was hard to put down and thought provoking.

This movie is based on the true life story of carley Allison (whom I'd never heard of until watching the movie) a teen figure skater who is faced with a rare form of throat cancer, but bravely stays positive and continues trying to achieve her dreams whilst also holding down a relationship.
The movie itself was OK, I did feel happy and also sad for her at times. But what was off putting was the constant narration and time jumps, I feel it would have been a better movie without all that and instead focus on the story itself.
I didn't find out until the credits rolled that the person who played carley in the movie, was real life carleys best friend. I found that absolutely amazing that she was able to do that.
