Grief and loss are central themes. The three main characters are navigating their way through different kinds of loss: Chuck is grieving after the loss of his wife of many years from cancer; Kirsten is coming to terms with violent death of her father; Elle is living in a nightmare where her daughter has been abducted by her father.
The writing is utterly beautiful, and I found myself completely caught up in the lives of these people. Even though two of the characters are dealing with grief, it’s such a life affirming novel.
Highly recommended - just have the tissues close at hand!
Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Ashley Bell in Books

This is one of those stories that is very hard to talk about without giving too much away, and I would not want to ruin the surprises for anyone who might choose to read the book. With that said, here's what I can tell you without spoiling anything.... The novel starts out with Bibi, a novelist, discovering that she has brain cancer. After hearing that she has less then a year to live, she surprises everyone (except maybe herself) by waking completely cancer free the next morning. As a celebratory gift, her parents send a psychic to Bibi, and during her reading, she discovers that her life was spared so that she could save someone named Ashley Bell. The journey that Bibi has to make in her quest to locate Ashley forces her to revisit places and experiences from her own past that she has long since forgotten.
The buildup in this novel started out slow but constant, and once it got moving I couldn't put it down. Any Dean Koontz fan, or any thriller fan for that matter, will love this one. While Dean Koontz may be thought of as a horror writer, and there are some paranormal elements to this story, non-horror fans should enjoy this one also.
Note: I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Carma (21 KP) rated A Nanny For the Reclusive Billionaire in Books

Rhys Dalton is reclusive to say the least. Living in Flamingo Key with his son Oliver and a handful of trusted employees is just what he needs after losing his wife 3 years ago. He couldnt protect Beth but he will do whatever it takes to protect Oliver including cutting them off from civilization. Hiring a nanny to help with Olivers needs while he works seems the perfect solution, until Mallory shows up on his doorstep. Werent nannies old and wrinkled with wool dresses?
Mallory and Rhys find themselves needing each other more than they are willing to admit. Together they bring out the best of each other and can offer more live lessons and love to Oliver. But Mallory is reluctant to share her past with Rhys given his personal history with cancer. That can only mean trouble ahead, right?
A Nanny for the Reclusive Billionaire is the first book Ive read by Regina Kyle after meeting her in Cincinnati earlier this year. I am regretting now, not having known about her before because her writing style is wonderful. Believable characters with great storyline flow and humor. If you havent read anything by Ms. Kyle before make this a one click immediately. I voluntarily read an advance copy without expectation for review. Any and all opinions expressed are my own.
