Shell Wright (34 KP) rated Carstairs: Hospital for Horrors in Books
Feb 4, 2020
Oh, this book! If you love crime, facts, gruesome stuff, this is the book for you!
Not at all what I imagined it would be. I figured it would be facts about the hospital, possible interviews with staff etc. however, due to very limited information being freely given on the hospital itself, the book turned out the most fantastically real read.
Enter the patients. To fill the pages there is chapter after chapter of patients and their crimes. Facts that keep the pages turning until your eyes cant stay open any longer. Cannot recommend this book highly enough. Absolutely fantastic, start to finish!

David McK (3533 KP) rated The Silver Eagle (Forgotten Legion Chronicles, #2) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Second book in "The Forgotten Legion" trilogy, in which Ben Kane follows the same format as the first in following his protaganists chapter about (with a few exceptions), and ending each chapter on a cliff-hanger.
Mostly fairly formulaic stuff, and this book has less of the, ahhh .... shall we say ... purple sections of prose than the first, as Fabiola is now a Roman citizen rather than the prostitute, some of whose actions are explicitely described in the previous volume.

Erika (17789 KP) rated John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) in Movies
May 25, 2019
John Wick Chapter 3 picks up immediately after Chapter 2, which I liked, so it got going right away. The fighting is so well choreographed, and my favorite section of fighting was with the book in the New York Public Library. You apparently can kill someone with a very weighty book.
This chapter provided much more information on the Continental/High Table mythos, which I thought was cool. Asia Kate Dillon was stone cold as the Adjudicator, and I can't wait to see more of Dillon in Chapter 4.
I could have done without Halle Berry being in the film. She really didn't add anything, and both my father and I were annoyed that it cut away from Keanu fighting to show her, when frankly, the only person I really want to see kicking ass is Keanu.

Christine A. (965 KP) rated The October List in Books
Nov 14, 2018
The author starts this book with Chapter 36 and works his way down to Chapter 1. It was easy to get lost in the story...not in the good way. It is tough to follow the story unless you read the book in larger chunks. I tend to read a few minutes at a time and was lost quickly. I restarted the book and read a few chapters at a time and really enjoyed it. The best part was I DIDN'T FIGURE OUT THE ENDING!!! Yes, that was intentionally written in all caps because that rarely happens.

saheffernan (157 KP) rated Amy & Roger's Epic Detour in Books
May 22, 2019
The unique style in which this book was written was great. I loved discovering along with Amy & Roger all the places they traveled. Meeting friends along the way. I was glad for the personal growth and discoveries they made in their travels too. The song lyrics as titles was also great I loved when they finally made sense in each chapter.

Fruit Bat (42 KP) rated Against All Odds: Walter Tull the Black Lieutenant in Books
Mar 1, 2018
I thought book would be solely about the life of Water Tull but it isn't. Chapter 8 is entitled Other Black Soldiers and Regiments of the First World War while Chapter 9 lists is a list of the 559 officers and men of the 23rd (Service) Battalion, (2nd Football) Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge’s Own) who where killed during the Great War. Other chapters seem to be dedicated to pre-war history, sadly I did not enjoy the book but that is not say others won't.
