I can honestly say that I did not enjoy this book. For me, Charles Dickens' works are all very repetitive. There's an orphan who continuously falls onto bad times, then suddenly figures things out and gets his life turned around. Everything happened too slowly and was way too drawn for me or it was important information told in passing. The chapters jump around a lot so it can get confusing temporally. There are too many characters with similar names to keep track of. Overall, I didn't enjoy this novel.

"I’ll start with Midnight Run. Just one of the finest Goddamn movies I’ve ever seen. Charles Grodin and Robert De Niro. If there’s a better buddy comedy, show it to me, and I’ll shake your hand. It’s so funny. It’s also where I learned what chorizo is. Being from Illinois, not a lot of truck stops serve chorizo and eggs. It was part of my “goin’ out west” legend, like, “One day, I will go to California, and on the way there, I will experience chorizo and eggs.”"

After seeing all the movies, I finally read the book. Nick and Nora Charles are trying to enjoy a Christmas in New York City, but a case involving one of Nick's former clients keeps interrupting the holiday. I found this book lacked some of the spark of the movie version, but it was still enjoyable.

This fictional biography follows the life of Alice Liddell. Her childhood friendship with the adult Charles Dodgson gives him the inspiration for Alice in Wonderland. The writing was very descriptive, but I was very creeped out by the way their relationship was portrayed. It doesn't say anything unseemly happened, but it still really bothered me.

One of Bronson's better cop flicks
Every time I see Charles Bronson playing a policeman, I always think maybe this was a role Clint Eastwood turned down as their styles and film choices in the 1970s were very similar.

This was a good one, though, as it was action packed and had some great car chase scenes. Everything you look for in a mob, action cop film is here and will not disappoint.

Movie Favorite

"Thanks to Criterion, I could finally see the Max Ophuls movies I’d been reading about for years. The story of Madame de . . . on paper doesn’t really interest me, but in the hands of Ophuls, Danielle Darrieux, Charles Boyer, and the great Vittorio De Sica (who’s not only a fantastic director and one of the fathers of neorealism, he’s also damn suave), it’s a movie that truly amazed me. I could watch those dancing scenes for hours."
