Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Biting Bad (Chicagoland Vampires, #8) in Books

Eight books in and it still keeps me entertained. I laughed, I grumbled; I enjoyed it.
I'll admit it's probably been a good few months since I read the last book in the series but I caught on again pretty quick and we meet some old friends and enemies and go on a ride through the streets of Chicago.
I love Ethan and Merit as a couple and i'm thinking maybe he'll pop the question in the next book.

Nicole Hadley (380 KP) rated Rosie the Tarantula: A True Adventure in Chicago’s Field Museum in Books

Rosie the Tarantula: A True Adventure in Chicago’s Field Museum by Peggy Macnamara is a cute picture book. It is a story about a pink footed tarantula, Rosie, who lives at the Chicago field museum. One day in 2011 she escaped from her room. She didn’t appear until 2012. This book imagines the adventure she might have had. It is also used to describe what can be found at the field museum. Plus there are lots of notes at the end about the real rosie, and other animals mentioned in the book. I will say the rhymes are hard and do not flow well, but for this book I don't think it is needed. I applaud the author for getting the words to rhyme in the first place. And while this book is about a Chicago based institution, lots of kids will love its story and colorful illustrations.
I received an ARC from Northwestern University Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I give the book 4/5 stars.

Matt Leyshon sets his novel in present day Chicago but the real story beings when Carl Axford is sent back in time to Whitechapel London 1888 and where he will bear witness to the work one of history most notorious serial killers known “Jack The Ripper”.
For those who are drawn to historical fiction and enjoy a good gripping thriller this is a must read . It has every thing a good fictionalised historical novel should have well researched historical details and a good dose of fiction.Well dons Matt can't wait for the next one.

I loved The House on Mango Street when I read it years ago. I was excited to discover a new book by Sandra Cisneros.
This is the story of the Reyes family and their adventures, traveling from Mexico to Chicago and places in between. Lala, the youngest, narrates the tale, jumping backwards (to the beginnings of the Awful Grandmother) and forwards in time. So much drama, just like a telenovela.
I think I might have been the only one in our book club who truly enjoyed it. The flow was a little choppy, but I felt that it worked for the story.

Rewatched this in UHD and it's still as good today as it was when first released 31 years ago!.
A very simple plot (as was the case with these type of movies back then and now) with Arnold as a fish out of water russian cop trying to track a bad guy drug dealer who has fled from moscow to chicago.A wise cracking american cop (belushi) is Arnold's guide through chicago as he hunts down the bad guy..Some funny one liners and old school action set pieces make this an enjoyable film.

Classic Billy Wilder comedy farce, starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis (doing his Carey Grant impersonation), with the latter two playing down on their luck musicians who witness a mafia murder during the Prohibition Era of the 1920s and hatch a plan to escape Chicago by joining an all-girl band (enter Monroe) in drag in order to escape.
Full of sizzling one liners/repartee such as:
"Water Polo? Isn't that awfully dangerous? "
"I'll say. I had two horses drown under me..."
(I think it was 2)
and who can forger the final line of the film ("nobody's perfect")!
