This book drew me into the world of fantasy!!
This book tells the tale of a mans life, of his childhood and his manhood. He comes from a land where magic exists and there is an entire university dedicated to teaching it. The hero is mischievous and in and out of trouble throughout the book but in the ways most young men are. If you love books and have never read a fantasy novel before try this one, if you love fantasy it was my husbands classic "nerd" friends who forced this book on me (I'm using "nerd" as a loving descriptive term, like you'd call the guys of Big Bang theory "nerds").

[The Moon Coin] by [Richard Due] was an adventure into childhood for adults like me, and a great trip through imagination for young people. I know as I was growing up I wished that the lands I heard about in stories were real and that I could travel there. What [Mr. Due] has created is worlds of imagination, to which he has allowed his characters travel. Unfortunately, what they find is not exactly what the stories portrayed.

I encourage everyone who has an imagination, and those in desperate need of one, to take the journey to the Moon Realm with Lily and Jasper. Of course, at this point we know more than Jasper so I guess I must read on!

High school read
I first read this in High school as required reading. It was on the banned book list. No one seems to know that even existed today. Well it did. and this book was on there. But I had a great English teacher who made us read it and my mom whole heartedly approved. Good ol' mom and my teacher. This is a timeless classic, with a lot of childhood nostalgia. Make your teens read it, read it with them, and do a book review at home. This will help your kids understand the English language, give insight into reading comprehension, and is very interesting actually.

Strange Feelings

Both of the protagonists were hard to like in different ways. Both smug, but one bitter and the other spoiled but grieving. If you've read, you'll know who is which. The focus on the story seemed in the wrong places and paced with annoying repetition. I would have loved to have more about the boys' childhoods. Dova's mother and her background were far more interesting to me. I expected a climax, but instead got blue balls. One human being judging another, from nothing but a sparse childhood presence and his current state to go on. I liked the suggestion that they had a boyish crush on each other. The end was oddly fantastic.

Harrowing and inspiring
It seems almost impossible that Tara Westover is an academician from both Harvard and Cambridge given that she had never been to school. Her story is important, revealing how women are treated and subjugated in fundamentalist societies.

Brought up in a survivalist, Mormon family, Westover speaks about a poverty-stricken, difficult childhood where education is seen as secondary and violence is rife. Her relationship with her abusive brother is horrifying, And moreso is her family's acceptance of his behaviour. So gaining scholarships to top universities in the world despite having had no clue about the Holocaust, the civil rights movement, and Napoleon, is no mean feat.

While parts are repetitive, it is engaging and harrowing to hear her inspiring story.
