The film goes back and forth between his memories of his childhood, his fantasies, and his present life. The imagery is iconic and unforgettable—the quintessential Fellini. Who could ever forget the monumental Saraghina dancing on the beach? The images from this film have stayed with me my whole life."

"It’s probably my all-time favorite. Partially for nostalgic reasons, but mainly because I love movies about kids, when the kid actors know what they’re doing. I like the innocence of it, and the simplicity. I guess in a cheesy way, it takes me back to my childhood and messing around with friends too. It has a perfect balance of humor, heart, and intense moments as well."

This movie is my childhood. Howl is the guy I aspire to be with and Sophie is the whimsical beauty I wish I could be. It is by far my favourite Studio Ghibli movie and will continue to be far into the future. I love the story and the romance, how Howl and Sophie battle things together and eventually realise their love for each other. Beautiful.
