I could not put this book down. I had to find out what happened next, even though it wasn't that kind of book. Each chapter is about one of Hattie's children(tribe). It tells the story of their mother and their life because of their mother through each individuals point of view. That was very interesting to me. I would have liked for there to have been a Hattie chapter reflecting on each of her children in her older years, but other than that...I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I know that this was the first novel for Ayana Mathis, but if she continues to write like this, she will be added to my favorite authors list for sure!!

Another fantastic addition to some wonderfully reimagined fairy tales. The author does a beautiful job weaving the classic story of Mulan in a Lituanian world. It also gives us a look at two of the youngest members of the Duke of Hagenheims family.
Throughout each book another fairytale unfolds and one of the Dukes children is a central part. I enjoy seeing what happened to the older children now married and how we receive a glimpse of their furtures through these books.
As always it is a well done version of Mulan that captures the soul of a warrior. A must read for fans of romance, fairy tales, and Melanie Dickerson's stories.

Where Is My Coat? Farm Animals by Anita Bijsterbosch is a cute board book for very young children who like to play fun and simple guessing games with pictures of cozy-colored animals at play. It is a a pleasant and easy read.

Animal shapes are shown and you are asked what they are. It is very interactive. Kids will need to use their visual skills to figure out what type of animal is depicted. The illustrations are super cute and the colors draw you in. This is a good book to use for teaching animals to small children.

Tell Me a Mitzi

Tell Me a Mitzi by Lore Segal has three stories within one about Mitzi and her younger brother and their daily tales. The tales are a little slices of life with whimsy, a touch of fantasy, and a lot of repetition. The stories were a little long, my mind wandered, and I suspect that would be true with some children too. Mitzi was clever, independent, sneaky, and demanding. She and her brother kept their poor mother hopping! Children will relate to her and enjoy her antics, even if the telling of those antics is less than inspiring.
