Ip Man 4 is indeed a finale. The Ip Man films are always solid, with interesting stories and beautifully choreographed fighting.
Donnie Yen, is, of course, amazing, and I've always loved his portrayal of Ip Man. I know Ip's family is very thankful for the films, and likes them. That's always a plus in my book.
Ip takes a trip to San Francisco when Bruce Lee provides the ticket and hotel. But, Ip is mainly using the trip so he can look at schools for his son.
The film portrays San Fransisco at the time, and the racism against the American-born Chinese and the immigrants. There was another interesting perspective to me as well, the Chinese Masters are mad with Bruce Lee for wanting to introduce Chinese Martial Arts to people that aren't Chinese.
Of course, it wouldn't be an Ip Man film if he wasn't going around, kicking people's asses justly. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie, and it was a nice break after seeing Uncut Gems earlier that day.

This book was very interesting to read. As a memoir, it was great to be able to see into the author and her family's life. I had to read this book for one of my college courses and it has been very eye-opening to see what these people had to go through, not through the history books, the laws, or even the movies that have come out about the Chinese Americans. This very honest representation of their lives was well written and full of information. There were many things that I had learned differently or, in some cases, didn't even learn in my classes until now. It was all just swept under the rug by the writers of history
This book is set up with short vignettes that break up six other stories of, mainly, the men in Maxine Hong Kingston's family. It shows the struggle of Chinese-Americans in their immigration and their becoming American citizens when they first got here. The story touches a lot on the racism that they encountered as well. When there were stereotypes, Kingston was able to spin them to give them a sort of double-consciousness. There was the negative stereotyped version, then there was also the positive version.
This was a very interesting, and eye-opening book. If you want to learn more about the Chinese American history, pick this book up.

It's the second Patrick McLanahan book and this time brings in a B2 bomber but I felt this one didn't have the edge of the seat action like Flight of the Old Dog, there were moments where it was building but it seemed never to keep going and the ending was a bit of a let down, back of the book sets it up to be big but I wasn't too impressed, I actually think what they were trying to stop would of been more exciting to let happen! (Read it and you'll see). Also weirdly I started routing for the Chinese to win by the end and as this is written by an American and focused on US supremecy I found that strange

It's interesting to learn about what is happening in different countries from the perspective of the people who are actually living there. So much of what we see in our media only discusses things from an American perspective, which is obviously biased. That's not to say that one will feel more positively about the Chinese government after reading a book like this, but it does give one a better understanding of how things got the way they are and also why people went along with it, and in some cases continue to do so. In telling the stories of a variety of Chinese citizens, both ordinary and highly influential, the author does a fantastic job of capturing the mood of the people and just what everyday life is like for them. China is a country awash with contradictions, while the ruling party tries to modernize without loosing their grip on power. This is a very well written book, that is often every bit as engaging as any fictional story, that provides a fascinating look at one of the biggest players on the global stage today. Anyone with any interest in current events should read it, and be happy they live in a country where they'll be allowed to.
