Book #5 in Michael Arnold's 'Civil War Chronicles', this picks up not long after then end of the previous ([b:Assassin's Reign|16281347|Assassin's Reign (Civil War Chronicles #4)|Michael Arnold|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1373968716s/16281347.jpg|22383365]), with Stryker and his men off to retrieve a treasure from the Scilly Islands for the cause of King and Country.

Of course, agents of Parliament are also after the same treasure.

Meanwhile, Stryker's friend Capt Lancelot Forester is also sent deep into Parliamenterian held country in order to shore up the will of an outpost that is still holding out for the king ...

Surviving shipwreck, imprisonment and torture, the two distinct plot strands (Stryker and the treasure/Forester' mission) eventually mesh at the defense of Basing House, in another enjoyable entry in the series.

This book is now on my list of favorite Civil war era books!!
I loved how Shannon McNear explained both sides of the war and her descriptions of events were so realistic. I really enjoyed reading about these characters, Shannon McNear brought them to life and made me invested in their outcomes right from the start. I can not more highly recommend reading a book! Its full of adventure, survival, compassion, love... It has so much to offer.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for the beautifully crafted characters, the inspiring story-line, and for the great description Shannon McNear gave of both sides in the war.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Not the best in the Marvel series
I found this film a little too repetitive, to the point I can't tell the difference between Avengers Assemble and Ultron, Captain America First Avenger, and Civil War. The story surrounding Bucky is rather boring, and Captain America is a little too over the top with his relationship with him. It's just one big Marvel blur.

"Mabanckou is one of the greatest storytellers, famous for his book, Black Moses. Les Cigognes Sont Immortelles, which combines the personal and political; it shows the impact that history, violence and civil war has on a family, against the backdrop of colonization and decolonization. I was particularly struck by this recent quote of his: “The civilization of tomorrow is the sum of marginalities."

This large volume featuring the whole Winter Soldier series was well worth the money. The run is the Winter Soldier/Black Widow storyline, they're a couple, Natasha gets brainwashed and doesn't remember him, and some espionage/action ensues.
I'm assuming this was the series of comics that Natasha refers to in Captain America: Civil War. Overall, it's a solid volume and re-readable.

Fifth entry in Marvel's 'Phase 3' (that started with Captain America: Civil War), and the last film to star Chris Hemsworth's Thor until Avengers: Infinity War (a whole 2 movies later), that sees Thor take on a more comedic persona than before.

This is also the one that takes inspiration from Planet Hulk as part of its plot thread, in which Thor is forced to partake in Gladiatorial combat against the Hulk (making an appearance for the first time since Age of Ultron) - "he's a friend from work!" - just as Cate Blanchett's Hela is freed from her imprisonment following the death (spoiler!) of a major character early on, and just as she starts a war against Asgard.

Ouch
Some of the scenes in this movie actually made my stomach churn. Foxx,Jackson and DiCaprio give great preformaces in this civil war area movie. The movie is filled with action, drama, blood, gore and more gore. The story was fun but kind of predictable at times which is why one of the reasons it will be an one time watch only for me.

Could you imagine being the cause of a civil war? That is exactly what Phillip is facing. How will he protect his family and himself?

[Trent Reedy] did a good job creating a very possible situation and showing the consequences in [Divided We Fall]. Although the novel is fiction with a dystopian feel it is something that could actually happen, which makes it more compelling.

Civil Rights hero
A masterfully done historical drama,
Chadwick Boseman was absolutely the perfect person for the part of Jackie Robinson.
This film has a very real feel of the hatred and anger in the USA POST WW2.
There was a lot of ignorance and discontent at the time.
I think it is important that this is seen not just as a baseball movie but also that it carries with it to my mind an important piece of the post war civil rights movement.
Powerful and thought provoking, the writers did not shy away from the uglier parts of the racist rhetoric and presented it fully and broadly to be challenged head on.
I would reccomend this to anyone who has an interest in either baseball or civil rights or both together as it presents the telling of a story from a true American hero.
Rest in peace number 42

The second book in Michael Arnold's planned Captain Stryker series of books, all set during the time of the English Civil War.

Despite being one of the defining period in English history, it's actually a subject rarely touched upon: when I was at school, we were taught more about the American Civil War than about the English counter-part! Short of this series, I can't - personally - think of any other novels set in and around the same period.

Like Cornwell's Sharpe series of books, the events of this are all set in and around real historical events: in this case, the storming of Cirencester, the siege of Lichfield and the battle of Hopton Heath. If I'm honest, I wasn't familiar with any of these events, which is something I've always enjoyed about this type of book: a chance to learn some new history while also enjoying a good read! :)
