Some Brief Moments of Uniqueness From This Above Average Zombie Film

This movie was pretty good for a foreign zombie film. The zombies were well done and the blood and special effects were good too. For me the real thing that kept me interested was how they tried to change up the zombies by giving them this new and unique behavior where they started taking objects and stacking them up high in some kind of weird ritual. To me though this never fully pays off as it is never explained why or what they were doing. The movie did do well in its scenes where it built the tension and actually kept things scary, which some zombie films fail to do. I also liked the way they kept the theme on survival and they were constantly running for their lives or looking for a place to hunker down and stay safe. The zombie kills were pretty gruesome and they didn't shy away from the blood and gore when it came to blowing a zombie's head clean off with a shotgun or showing someone's bite wound continue to bleed as they slowly die. Still this movie suffered from their not being a more solid plot or story tying the people together and although some know each other, they never really say how. To me this movie was better than the average zombie movie but just barely. I give it 6/10.

This is the story of Michael Rosenโs experience with Covid-19. How he became ill, then very ill, was hospitalised, put on a ventilator for 48 days, and his hard work back to good health - with complications included.
I can remember being really worried when Michael Rosen said he was feeling unwell last year, and even more so when it was reported that he had been taken in to hospital. There was that long period where I could only imagine how distressed his family must have been feeling.
This book documents it all. There are the diary entries from the carers whilst Michael Rosen was in an induced coma: the nurses, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists - all those from right across the NHS who helped him, turned him, talked to him, kept him clean and made sure that he heard from his family. They clearly did an amazing job, and this showed the sheer volume of people who cared for him.
Itโs a really moving book. I read much of this with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. And of course there were the funny bits, as there always is with Michael Rosen.
Iโm just so glad he made it. This book is going on the Keeper Shelf, because this will be a book that we will all look back on in years to come, when memories of Covid-19 start to dim.

In many places somewhat more awesome then I remember, but suffers on subsequent visits because of how increasingly over-the-top these immediately began to get with the deaths in the sequels compared to the more humble ones here - which still finds a morbidity in their simplicity, but no one's being cooked alive in a tanning bed, you feel? Still has a lot going for it, the garrote in the shower is every bit as grisly as you recall and remains one of the hardest-to-watch executions in the entire series. But what actually rings better for me this time around is the heavily portentous teen melodrama packed tight with insane amounts of hilarious foreshadowing and a palpable sense of fear + paranoia (through Wong's clean direction and these astute performances [Sawa in particular is real outstanding]) all over the fact that death just really fucking hates these kids lol. Accomplishes as much playful winking as is legal without going full meta. Still one of the all-timer horror movie premises which honestly should have spawned an infinite number of sequels, but the writing around it is genuinely ingenious here, too. Still prefer the sequels for being leaner and meaner though.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Iโm rather picky about my MM Romances. I donโt know why, but I am. Josh Lanyon really started me on genre when I got book 4 in his Adrian English series for free one Christmas through All Romance E-Books. As soon as I read it I went and bought book 5 to see how it was all going to work out and I loved it. The only problem with that is the fact that Iโve probably been spoilt for most other MM books now.
Thatโs not to say it was bad or anything it just didnโt really do it for me, though Iโm not entirely sure why. I liked the fact it was based around something different i.e. crime scene clearance, and it was interesting to read about the depth they go to to clean them.
The romance between the two main characters was quite sweet and progressed over time, which I liked much better than some others which just go straight into the hot and heavy. The two were likable in their own ways and when they finally kissed I was cheering them on.
I also really liked Gabe and Dave, they were always just looking out for Jack and trying to help him do the right thing, even if it didnโt always seem like it.
