Knox Kevel is a unique character. A hacker with asthma and who have been trying to get past his parent's reputation. Set in both Florida and Italy. This sci-fi adventure thriller with a bit of romance is hard to label but a pleasure to read. It starts off a bit slow but hard to put down once it starts going.
Now I need to some how find my way to the Amalfi Coast.

[Last Days of Last Island] by [Bill Dixon] shows that being rich doesn't always come with common sense. In the mid 1800 in America the rich were looking for new ways to enjoy their wealth. In Louisiana the plantation owners found a beautiful island off the coast. It had great views and fishing. Also the breezes were a nice change from the temperatures inland in the South.
The catch is this "island" was little more than a large sandbar. What we know as barrier islands. This did not deter them from building it up as a resort for the well to do. What could go wrong?
There was no weather forecasting as their is today and the Gulf Coast was as prone to hurricanes then as it is now. There also was no easy escape since the only way to the island was by boat.
[Dixon] tell the tragic story of life and death on Last Island during the Hurricane of 1856. The research is well done and the narrative makes the saga of the inhabitants real in this pre Civil War natural disaster. Although he does get quite repetitive with details it was still a very informative read.

[Storm Warriors] by [Elisa Carbone] has been on my reading 'pile' for sometime. As a middle school teacher I love to add books to my library. This one is definitely a gem.
The story is about the Pea Island Life Saving Station. These stations were what was to become the Coast Guard. What makes this station's story unique is it was fully manned by African Americans at a time when Jim Crow was rearing his ugly head.
I would love to read this one with my seventh graders.

Merging sci-fi with religion might seem an odd combination, but this novel takes the approach what would happen if the Vatican had proof of extraterrestrial life, with that proof coming in the shape of two eloping aliens who have crash-landed in a small island of the coast of Ireland, just in time for the new Pope's Easter address when he is stumped for ideas.
While it raised a few smiles, it also unfortunately never really raised a chuckle or any deep profound thoughts: this, I found, to be the type of book to read, enjoy, and move on.

Alone, with a fall gale howling around the rafters, Amy Johnstone turns to see a woman’s rain-streaked face staring back at her through the dark window.
The face is...identical to her own!
Instantly, Amy's life crumbles. Something sinister surrounds her and those she loves. She is catapulted into a world she knows nothing about--a place where a killer rules, where her life is in constant peril, and where her child has been taken.
WINTER’S DESTINY is an edge-of-the-seat thriller - love story set on the rugged Pacific Coast of Oregon. Here, the story reaches its unique and spectacular conclusion.

Paperless

Doesn't download tickets
You have to be online to download tickets.
More complicated than it should be
I want this to be good. I want it to work but sadly it has failed yet again. When it was a Virgin east coast app i had the same issues. The revamp and rebranding of the app has done nothing to improve the service. I can buy tickets from the website, I just can't download them to the device. I might as well buy them from the station. When it works it's good but it's not worth the stress and frustration.
