"Star Wars reminds me of my mother, who didn’t let me see color movies until I was 12. I was raised on Alexander Nevsky and Chaplin and all of these insane movies that would just put a 10-year-old to sleep quicker than a shack of sheep. But Star Wars was my first departure from that rule, and it just blew my mind. It was the first color film I saw, and it just knocked me out. I don’t think I ever forgave my mother after I saw that film. But also just the kind of iconoclastic myth retelling that combined with science fiction, which has always been huge to me."

"Black Like Me, but I felt a way, because as I'm reading I realized it's about a white man dressed in black face in the '60s to see what it feels like to be black. It's cool to see these detailed experiences of how white people treated him, but at the same time, he was able to just go back to his regular white life. But we deal with this shit everyday. We can't just wipe our color off — which is great, I love my color, but it definitely made me feel a way. I'm still glad I saw the perversion that was happening with the treatment of black people, so for that reason, I appreciate the book."

Upstream Color (2013)
2013 | Drama, Mystery, Romance
There isn’t much dialogue in “Upstream Color,” and what there is of it is often misleading or indirect. What I discern here is the work of a unique visual stylist and collage artist who’s creating obsessive-compulsive allegorical puzzles

"A masterwork codirected by Emeric Pressburger and the sui generis Michael Powell, whose twisted imagination I revere. As usual, Powell and company go to extremes—nuns in love, isolated high up in the Himalayas. Interestingly, Powell felt this was his most erotic movie. It is worth watching for the seductive color scheme alone."

This novel is stunningly lyrical and limned (to "depict or describe in painting or words" or "suffuse or highlight (something) with a bright color or light") story of storms and life in 21st Century New York. Read my review of this amazing novel here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/05/23/literary-impressionism/
