loving these!
I was gifted my copy of this book, direct from the author.
This is book 3 in the Colorado Dragons series, and it can be read as a stand alone book, but personally, I think you'll get a better enjoyment of these ice hockey player slash dragons if you read them all in order. There is something going on in the wider dragon world, and I'm not sure you'd pick that up from one book.
Dante is traded to the Dragons on the last day. For something he did not do. Finding himself thousands of miles from his family, he throws himself into his hockey. Coach Theron watches the newbie, and what he's been told does not fit with what he sees. His dragon is rather taken by Dante too. But Theron lost someone close to him a long time ago, so Theron pushes Dante away. Then Dante is taken, and Theron's dragon is all out to find his mate.
What I loved about this book, was that I found it a bit more emotional, I think is the word, than the other books. Heavy on the emotions, this one. But also, deeper. Both Theron and Dante have suffered, differently, and they are only trying to protect themselves from being hurt again. But they are constantly drawn to the other and it's only a matter of time before one of them gives in. Theron runs then. He redeems himself, though!
I thought, for one reason or another, that all the Dragons are ice dragons. But Theron is a FORGE dragon. He can do things with metallic elements that no one else can. And that is why he is targeted by the bad guy. Why Dante is, to get at Theron. And I loved being surprised by that!
I am loving this series so far, and can't wait to get my hands on future books.

too much hockey for me!
I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 4 in the Colorado Dragons series and it helps to have read the other books first. Not strictly necessary, just a personal recommendation, is all. I loved all three other main books, and the short intro.
This one, not so much.
I didn't dislike it, but I think, for ME (stress heavy on the ME!) was that because both Ash and Max are hockey players, this book is heavy on the hockey. Very heavy on the hockey. And at points, I skimmed past some of it. The level of detail is great, it's just me.
Both Max and Ash have trauma from a young age. While Max' is front and centre from the beginning, it takes time for Ash to reveal what's going on with him and his dad. I thought the video was something else entirely, and I cried when Ash reveals what was going on and why. I mean, bawled my eyes out at what that young man had been through, and how he was dealing with it all alone.
I'm loving that these dragons are all different. Max is a lifebound dragon. Now, I wasn't quite sure what that meant at the beginning, but things become clearer (sort of) as time goes on. When Ignatius gets involved, as he tends to do with his dragons and their partners, Max' knowledge of being lifebound takes a hit n the right direction.
There is steam and passion, but the smexy times are kept to a minimum here, and are mostly faded out to grey. I liked that, a lot. This book isn't about the smex, it's more about dealing with childhood trauma, and coming out the otherside, with the one you love along side you.
While that hockey overtook things a bit, (again, that's a ME thing!) I still gave this book .....

This book is the most recent in a mystery series, but the first book I have read by Josi S. Kilpack. I do not read much in the mystery genre, but the cooking aspect of the book interested me enough to try this one. All of the page numbers to the recipes are listed nicely on the back of the first page, so I was able to check those out without having to search for them, and they do look like quite delicious recipes, perfect for this time of year.
The main character is an older woman, Sadie Hoffmiller, who has recently opened a P.I. business in her hometown in Colorado, but has taken a vacation to Boston with her love interest, Pete, to house-sit and watch over his three grandsons. Right away she strikes me as both ultra-conservative - Sadie and Pete sleep in separate bedrooms - and a perfectionist. Not only is her cooking described in detail, but also her cleaning and personal grooming habits. She also comes off as a "busy-body" as she very quickly gets involved in the life of the woman who lives across the street and bears the reputation of a witch, the eccentric Mrs. Wapple. It is as if she is so addicted to her job back home that she must continue its nosy approach wherever she travels.
The city of Boston is obviously chosen for its proximity to Salem, Massachusetts and the many references and allusions to ghosts and witches throughout the plot. When pranks begin to strike in the house that Sadie and Pete are staying at, the obvious choice is ghosts, but their sensibilities and penchant for detective work prevent them from embracing this as the solution.
When something dire happens to Mrs. Wapple halfway through the book, Sadie is right in the thick of it, her curiosity taking prominence over even her duties as babysitter with Pete. Not even a vacation will deter her from solving yet another case.
On the whole, the book is entertaining, though Sadie can be annoying at times. Like any mystery, I want to know who is the responsible party, but my favorite part of this book is definitely the recipes.
