Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated New England Knits: Timeless Knitwear with a Modern Twist in Books
Apr 27, 2018
New England Knits is full of 25 beautiful patterns—I love every single one—that are ideal for Fall, Winter, and Spring in the cooler areas of the world. There's a good variety: some sweaters, some cowls, some hats, a bag, a pair of mittens etc. They're all original and unique, and very inspiring. I can look at them and think of my own version or variation, either by changing the colors, adding a pocket, sewing on beads, etc. and creating my own look as well.
Again, I loved every single one. I've started one of them (Whale Watch Hat! It's really cute) and I can't wait to make some of the others.
Recommendation: The patterns are easy enough to read and understand for the intermediate/advanced knitter, which is the skill group it's written for. I'd say make sure you can read a pattern and use double pointed needles before trying any of these patterns. Summer is nearly half way over! Pick up your knitting needles and start on your Fall and Winter sweaters now!

Amazing Crayon Drawing was truly amazing. Remember how Awesome used to be a word to describe something that was truly "Awe-some?" well, it's Awesome.
Looking at the drawings were really inspiring and amazing. When I think of crayons, I think of cheap kids art supplies. My family business is retail art supplies and art classes for kids ages 4-12, and we don't have your typical Crayola crayons. We have the fancy pastels and the high-quality pencils and stuff. But Hammond uses Crayola, something I never considered a professional artist's tool.
Crayon drawing looks a lot like colored pencil or hard pastel on a gritty paper. depending on how hard you press you get either a buffed glossy look, or a light colored pencil look.
The instructions are good, though I can't draw and don't feel that this book would make me any better at it, but it definitely leads artists through the step by step process of laying down colors in a realistic way.
Recommendation: Ages 8+ to anyone who loves to draw with color (at a very reasonable price).

101 Video Games to Play Before You Grow Up:The unofficial must-play video game list for kids by Ben Bertoli is a great introduction guide to video games that adults may have played while growing up, and will be a great platform for families to meet and have fun. This book begins with a comprehensive table of contents for quick and easy reference. There are fill in boxes to note if you played it, "my rating", "My favorite moment" and "Notes for each game. It has great divisions such as action adventure, sports, and party games. Each game in the list includes platform, rating, other suggested games, and interesting trivia.
The book is printed in bright colors with cartoony type characters which is eye catching. The book is a quick read and a useful reference guide to throw in with your game consoles. Perfect for sharing with kids, revisiting memory lane, or for avid gaming fans.
I give this book 4/5 stars

Nicole Hadley (380 KP) rated Is It Warm Enough for Ice Cream? in Books
Jun 18, 2018
Is it Warm Enough for Ice Cream? by DK is a simple book about seasons. It asks each season if it is warm enough to eat ice cream. It is a quick and simple read for early learners. It reviewed the seasons and if each one was the right time for Ice cream. In each season the story gave ideas for what happens during that time and what activities you could do in that type of weather.
Each page describes a season of the year. Toddlers will learn about different items that show up in the season highlighted. Finally, it’s warm enough for ice cream and the colors pop even more than on the previous pages.
This book made me want to create a list of things to achieve for each season- like Ice Skating, wandering through the woods, looking for hiding animals, flying kites, and definitely eating ice cream.
I received an ARC from DK Children via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I give this book 4/5 stars.

The Marinated Meeple (1853 KP) rated Dimension in Tabletop Games
Aug 10, 2018
Fast Paced (2 more)
simple stacking of balls
The challenge is in getting the right colors
A game that is more fun than it should be...
We played this game by sheer accident. it was at a local convention in the play to win games, we picked it up and tried it out and spent the next 1/2 hour laughing at ourselves. I almost don't want to tell you how to play so that you'll give this game a try blind, which is maybe what made it even more fun. The quick gist if you really must know, is there are points for building your little structure in certain ways, like no red above a green, or no yellow below a black or a green and black can't touch. Sounds way too simple and easy, but yet it's not... and it's timed, so you only have a short window to make it happen as fast as possible.... I hope your not clumsey.... This would be a great kids game, and yet we were all adults playing and having a blast.
