The songs merged well with the storyline
There was more comic value than the first one
Cher still has it.
Abba fabba.

This was a great film and a good sequel and prequel to the first film. It rolled along quite nicely and the laughs were good. But I found overall this movie was more reality based than the first one and left me feeling a little reminded by my own mortality, which I was totally not expecting.
The acting was great as per usual and cher totally rocked her song (though I am a fan). I think I prefer the first one though for the feels.

Caffeinated Zombie (3374 KP) rated San Diego 2014: The Last Stand Of The California Browncoats in Books
Jan 9, 2019
Description for Mira Grant's website: It was the summer of 2014, and the true horrors of the Rising were only just beginning to reveal themselves. Fans from all over the world gathered in San Diego, California for the annual comic book and media convention, planning to forget about the troubling rumors of new diseases and walking dead by immersing themselves in a familiar environment. Over the course of five grueling days and nights, it became clear that the news was very close to home…and that most of the people who picked up their badges would never make it out alive.
This novella is part of the newsflesh series, and explores what would happen if a zombie outbreak occured a comicon. And interesting read although it felt a little bit rushed.

David McK (3496 KP) rated Rocketeer Adventures Volume 1 in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Like, I'm sure, more than a few others, my first exposure to The Rocketeer came from the early 90s movie of the same name: even back then, I remember thinking that it bore more than a few resemblances to the 1988 Amiga game 'Rocker Ranger', with both set during (or near) World War 2, and both concerning a test pilot who learns the use of a jet-fueled rocket pack.
I was completely unaware that the film - and, more than likely, that game - were based on a comic series of the same name: this particular one.
I aoso have to say that the film (from what I remember) draws heavily from this source, although (if you'll forgive the pun) neither ever really seemed to 'take off' for me: to heavily draw me in.

ClareR (5784 KP) rated Aquaman (2018) in Movies

Don’t believe the hype (or lack of it!)
I enjoyed this. I didn’t expect to, because it hasn’t had the best reviews, but I’m always pretty open minded when it comes to comic adaptations. I like the action and the unbelievability (if I want reality, I watch the news!), and I think Jason Mamoa was a pretty ‘believable’ Aquaman. Or at the very least, nice to look at ??♀️ (Shallow, I know). Special effects were really good, lots of underwater, floaty stuff, with loads of action and fighting (my boys really loved those bits).
And the environmental message was pretty clear: stop throwing rubbish in the sea, people!
So, we’ve seen the origin of Aquaman, and I feel we’ve been set up nicely for a follow up. I’ll be watching it.

Sam (228 KP) rated Titans - Season 1 in TV
Aug 17, 2019
Well Developed Characters (4 more)
Captivating Plot
Wonderful Backstories
Gorgeous Soundtrack
Surprisingly Dark
Everything I Could Hope For
As someone who grew up watching the beloved cartoon, Teen Titans, as well as an avid reader of the comic series, Titans and Teen Titans, a lot was riding against this TV show. However, I was truly surprised by how much I loved this series from the first episode. I've always adored the DC universe for their dark plotlines and backstories they give to the characters. I was thankful to see that they carried this same darkness into this television show. This paired with the talented way they showed the growth of the characters throughout the season was all done beautifully. I could not have possibly asked for more and look forward to the second season!

James Williams (5 KP) rated Joker (2019) in Movies

Joaquin Phoenix's Performance (1 more)
Nostalgic Feel
Outstanding!
This falls just short of a true masterpiece. I felt there was no need to reference bruce wayne in the film at all or show the death of his parents as most avid fans will already know the deal but i can see why this may have been done for a new audience. There were a few things that I love about this movie...you show this to someone who has never heard or seen it and you could believe it was a film made 20 even 30 years ago. The other is that even if you don't like comic book movies, you could still enjoy this as a film about a struggling man in society. Saw it twice and was just as mesmerising the 2nd time.

David McK (3496 KP) rated Hellboy (2019) in Movies
Jan 18, 2020
Hmmm … roughly 15 years after the Guillermo del Torro directed 'Hellboy' and 11 years after 'Hellboy 2: The Golden Army' (both starring Ron Perlman as Big Red), we have - essentially - a reboot of sorts, this time with David Harbour (whoever he is. From Stranger Things - I've yet to watch that - apparently) taking on the lead role, with support from Ian McShane and - this time - with Milla Jovovich taking on the role of the 'big bad' Nimue.
Yes, that Nimue, from Arthurian folklore.
Which should tell you pretty much all you need to know: a mish-mash hodge-podge of sorts, with some leaden dialogue and a migraine-inducing thumping soundtrack, that borrows more liberally from the source comic than I remember the previous films doing, while also being a fair bit bloodier!

Barry Newman (204 KP) rated Joker (2019) in Movies
Jan 31, 2020
Like a mash up of ‘Falling Down’ and ‘ The King Of Comedy’ this take on the Joker origin story was hugely satisfying and should be praised for doing something different and very un-comic book with the material . I could see where the story was going and wasn’t hugely surprised by how it ended , but the journey there..WOW. Joaquin Phoenix is simply outstanding as Arthur Fleck/Joker and if there is any justice in the world should surely be showered with awards for his mesmerising and twisted performance. Like Michael Douglas in ‘Falling Down’ you know he’s supposed to be “the bad guy” but you can’t help but sympathise with him after the shitty hand society has dealt him. Solid support also comes from Robert DeNiro in a small but memorable role. Highly recommended.
