The title comes from a metaphor the book tries to make, and it feels a bit of a stretch. But that’s a minor issue. The story is part murder mystery and part coming of age story. I might have found the beginning slow in other books, but that duality kept me engaged. The second half fixes any potential pacing issues from the first half, and I was caught up in the story. I was satisfied with the climax and loved seeing how Amelia grew of the course of the book. If you’ve missed this stand alone, I recommend you fix that today.

Merissa (14009 KP) rated The Ballad of Aramei (The Darkwoods Trilogy #3) in Books
Mar 31, 2023 (Updated Apr 10, 2023)
In this book you sort of get two stories overlapping, one concluding and then one starting - both of which will pull you in and keep you reading. I loved how this book rounded things off and tied them all together. There are still twists and turns aplenty so you will definitely not be bored. And one thing that I will say about the ending is that are little "mini" epilogues for the main characters which somehow just seem to fit better than one big one.
I won't write about the storyline as that has already been covered by others. What I will say is that the whole series is one of the best that I have read in a long time - 3 books in 3 days! This series is definitely a keeper and although I have read the Kindle versions, I will be buying the "real" books too! There is a new series coming out this year called The Darksouls Trilogy which I'm hoping will have a couple of familiar faces in there somewhere.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2570 KP) rated Haunted House Murder in Books

I know that the Lucy Stone series is extremely popular, but I struggle to get through the stories I have read. Part of it is Lucy’s family. I haven’t spent enough time with them to look past their faults and love them, I guess. And, let’s face it, that is often what we have to do with people in real life. In this case, I found the story to be better suited to a short story than even a novella. It’s not bad, but it felt drawn out and a little forced.
NOTE: This story is a novella, roughly 100 pages, and was originally part of the novella collection Haunted House Murder. If you have that book, there is no need to buy this ebook. If you haven’t read the story, now is the time consider this Halloween trip to Maine.
Debbiereadsbook (1753 KP) rated Kelvin (Tangled Tentacles #5) in Books

This is book 5 in the Tangled Tentacles series, and you really MUST read the other books before this one. There is an on-going story arc that is not fully recapped here. And you know, cos I said so!
And what a way to finish out the series! We get to the bottom of Andromeda, and just how long that's been going on.
We catch up with the other brothers, and I loved that.
But mostly, this is about Magnus and Kelvin finding each other, and finding Magnus' sister. I loved that Magnus and Kelvin talk about the baby situation, beforehand. The other brothers just jump straight in and worry at their peril!
Oh I loved the birthing scene and the surprises that brings.
We are introduced to new characters, and that epilogue! Oh, that's a cliff hanger I did not see coming!
So, while we have all 5 Thalassa brothers mated and happy, with or without children (yet) we are left hanging as to what comes next! Who, is not in question, just the WHAT! And I can't bloody wait!
5 full and shiny stars
