Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated If I Tell You in Books
Apr 1, 2018
A well written emotional ambush. I can best compare this to [John Green's] [Fault In Our Stars] for tissue necessity. [Tuckerman] has written a beutiful coming of age/coming out novel that captures all the struggle and complexities involved. Then she added a twist! The characters were amazing and although someof the terminoligy(I am not familiar with Aussie) was a bit different the messege was timeless.

Not as intricate as Elizabeth George Speare's better known books, but this tale of Matt's coming of age in the frontier days of Maine is still a great read. Not to be missed by kids and adults alike.

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Take Nothing With You in Books

Once again, Patrick Gale has written a novel that tugs at our heartstrings - and in this case, also plays on the strings of the cello! This beautifully written coming-of-age story is both poignant and uplifting. You can read my full review of this novel on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2020/02/09/tempo-of-progression/
Movie Critics (823 KP) rated Super Dark Times (2017) in Movies

While not an outright genre film, this dramatic thriller takes a realistic approach to its horror. Visually stunning and quiet, this surreal, haunting take on a coming of age story feels authentic

Trish (4 KP) rated Red Ruby Heart in a Cold Blue Sea in Books

This coming of age story is set in a small town in Maine. There is some mystery but mostly it is the story of a young girl dealing with tragedy, heartbreak, and growing up. I fell in love with Florine and hope that the rest of her life goes smoother than her first 17 years!

Based on the Stephen King novel, The body, which is the backdrop to this great story. (2 more)
Outstanding acting from the then young cast.
Nostalgic story of friendship and the vulnerability of youth.
Coming of age movie, with the late River Phoenix. Stand by Me is a small, quiet film that walks tall and resonates long after.
