Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated The Program (The Program, #1) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
The Program is a way to prevent teenage suicide which has become an epidemic. That is they way THEY sell it but is it really? Sloane and James do not believe it. Neither so the other teens. They have seen Returners and they are not the same, they are missing their memories.
Suzanne Young has created a compelling look into the future. The story keeps you wanting more. Luckily the sequel The Treatment is already out.

Andy K (10821 KP) rated The Descent (2005) in Movies
Apr 16, 2018 (Updated Apr 16, 2018)
Claustrophobic paranoia!
Just thinking this film about young girls who decide it would be a good idea to traverse the depths of deep, unexplored caves gives me a knot in my gullet. The most compelling aspect of this film is the uneasiness you feel as the girls go deeper and deeper beneath the earth not knowing what they will encounter.
The set up is definitely better than the delivery, but a creepy horror tale worth recommending nonetheless.

Murdock (4 KP) rated The Twelve (The Passage #2) in Books
Apr 22, 2018
The continuation of Amy and her comrades continues to blow me away. Character progression climaxes, and the twists are numerous and jarring. The first book's monstrous cliffhanger dove back in hurtfully slow, but I kind of dig plot sadism to an extent. The middle nearly killed me with anticipation. It got annoyingly slow there for a big, but the annoyance was laced with the hunger I knew would be satisfied.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2204 KP) rated Shadows on the Sand (Seaside Mysteries) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Just as Carrie and Greg might be ready to start a relationship, danger comes to their resort town. First the dishwasher in Carrie's restaurant is murdered, then her waitress starts acting strangely. What's going on? This is more romantic suspense than a true mystery, but I found the story compelling and the climax very suspenseful.

Dean (6926 KP) rated World Trade Center (2006) in Movies
Aug 28, 2018
Not the greatest of films to watch, but due to the fact it is based on one of the most shocking events in recent history makes it compelling viewing. It's not ladden with tons of news footage from the day but caputures the shock and scale of what happened very well.
Made from the point of view of 2 port authority workers who get trapped under the World trade centre and how they coped until rescued.

Milleen (47 KP) rated The Girlfriend in Books
Nov 14, 2018
A thrilling debut novel about a mother, a son, his girlfriend and the consequences of a lie told in desperation. The dynamics of the females in this relationship are twisted, a kind of domestic darkness played out on a believable backdrop of upper class Kensington and council house Croydon. A chilling account that will make you value your relationships with your in-laws, the fast pace and compelling drama will keep you reading until the wee hours
David McK (3425 KP) rated Hellboy, Vol. 1: Seed of Destruction in Books
Jan 28, 2019
The inspiration for the Ron-Perlman led movie(s) of the same name, Hellboy - like the lead character - is sort of a strange mix: in this case, of the occult with the medium of the graphic novel with a very Cthulu-like monster at the end of the tale.
I also have to say that this is proof that Marvel and DC aren't the only two publishers in the world able to produce compelling and enjoyable reads!
