"I went to see The Spirit of the Beehive at Film Forum on a whim only a few years ago, when it was rereleased, and it immediately became one of my favorite movies ever. It opens with a town full of kids, all yelling “The movie’s here! The movie’s here!” while running alongside a truck carrying a print of Frankenstein to the church where it will be screened. From there, you are swept right into the life and story of a thoroughly compelling little girl with beautiful brown eyes, a sister, a cat, a big house, a fair dose of anxiety, and a lot of free time in stressful post-civil-war Spain."

"This reminds me of childhood. It was a US release that took songs from their debut, Three Imaginary Boys, along with singles from the time. I could often hear it coming through the walls of my brother’s room. And that definitely had a big effect on how I remember that period. I don’t know what it was in particular that grabbed my attention; there was just something really enticing and compelling about it. We each had little hi-fi systems in our rooms and when he went out I’d just sort of nick or borrow it, take it into my room along with other stuff like The Smiths and Siouxsie & The Banshees."

Book Rating
I admit to being a rather big fan of Mel Sherratt's books having read several previously so was hoping this was going to be as good ... I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.

Ten Days has got it all ... great characters, intriguing storyline, fast paced, twists, turns and a very satisfying ending.

Ten Days is one of those books that is so compelling that you can't stop reading and I found myself taking every opportunity to read just one more chapter which quickly became several!

I would certainly recommend this and any of Mel's previous books; she delivers every time.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

12 Angry Men (1957)
12 Angry Men (1957)
1957 | Classics, Drama

"My five favorite films change all the time. Well, no — the top three never change, but the last two are kind of up for grabs constantly. 12 Angry Men is, I think, a feat of writing. It’s brilliant. The fact that it all takes place in one room — I think there’s maybe two minutes, three minutes of screen time that is not in the one room in that film — and yet it is one of the most compelling things I’ve ever seen. I mean, you can’t look away. You’re gripped by the dynamics between the people, by what’s gonna happen, and by the fact that it’s a whodunit, based in one room, which is brilliant."
