I think you know which way it will go - after all, there would be no story otherwise. What you need to do though is read this one for yourself. Instead of just reading my review which skims along the surface, take the time to delve into the depths of this amazing novel that will keep you turning the pages.
The timeline is historically accurate, with a few fictional additions. The scenes are brilliantly described and will make you feel as though you are there. Sibling rivalry can be harsh indeed, especially when it is encouraged. The circumstances between Alyce and Isabel are incredibly well thought out and explained. It was also easy to see how things could get so out of hand.
One thing I loved was seeing the relationship develop between Alyce and Thomas. From acceptance, to respect, to love. Simply delightful and wonderful to read.
This book is a 5-star review from me. It couldn't be anything else. A fantastic portrayal of the times and absolutely recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Suswatibasu (1702 KP) rated Tenth of December in Books
Nov 21, 2017
Tenth of December handles its running themes in a poignant, individual and certainly irreverent way. Narcissistic ideas of charity stems from trivial competition, while sheer denial is shown in the face of true poverty. Generations breed generations, passing on corrupted ideals and traumatic examples. Paedophilia, racism, poverty: nothing is safe from these chastising, powerful stories.
Saunders leaves an expunged, brutally telling view of the American dream. In his futuristic imaginings, he exaggerates the failings of Western consumerism, yet ultimately his message is clear: When one tries to have it all, they're left with nothing.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2271 KP) rated Death on Eat Street (Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mystery #1) in Books

This is my first book by these authors, and I did enjoy it. The pacing was a bit slow at the beginning of the book, but I loved all of the characters. Even Zoe's family, who doesn't get her new career path and are trying to change her, were very entertaining.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2271 KP) rated Scene of the Climb (Pacific Northwest Mystery #1) in Books

Meg is a great main character, and I loved spending time with her. The rest of the cast is equally as strong. The pacing was off in the plot a bit, but everything does come together for a nice climax. I will definitely be back for more.

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated The Calamity Café (Down South Café Mystery #1) in Books
Feb 21, 2018
I liked Amy, her family and friends, the Down South Cafe, and just about everything about this new series. If youre a fan of culinary mysteries, the talk of southern cuisine will have your mouth watering while you try to deduce who killed Lou Lou.
