"When this record was released, it was our whole life at that point. All of our life's experience was in there and it was so important to us and to our hopes. This album opened up everything for us as a band and our dreams suddenly started being revealed. It opened doors for us to do things we wanted and it changed all of our lives forever. We didn't pick up a tour for like six months after this came out. Back then, you would build a record on the underground for a while in front of like 30 people and then it would start connecting with people on different radio stations via different DJs in New York. Once the shit started getting crazy and once people starting knowing the music, it got a buzz round it which eventually made for our first exciting tour experience. We'd been doing back yard parties since 1987 and we'd been doing lots of shows. When we got to touring it, we were ready. About this time we were doing demos off other people's records and I was just playing the records back and forth. I got down with this other group from Brooklyn called The 7A3; I wanted to learn the music business and they helped with that. They had a song, they got signed on a major label and put out an album. Just going through that process and not really understanding what it was yet, I learned a lot of mad shit. Afterwards, when I came back to do Cypress, we were [still] working on a demo but then we really started to become a band after that because we knew what we were doing more. We'd each learned so much shit about how everything operates that it just made it all easier. That's why we came out with everything all pretty fucking together really. We knew this shit was banging, we knew it was dope and that gave us confidence. But when you're so close to something you need to take a step back sometimes. When we put it out fully and people I respected and admired became fans of our music, it was incredible and life-changing for us. We also liked the same music and the same shit – many of the records in this list is what brought us together in the first place. This album started everything."

Wow, it felt like watching one of those court TV series, which sucks you in, and you want to binge watch all the seasons at once. 😀

The protagonist in this novel was Vaughn, most probably not a very likable person by the society, because he is a defense lawyer. I really liked him in this book though, he sounded like a hero to me 😀 There were a wide variety of characters to choose from, and all of them were quite diverse and very intriguing personalities. Even though there were so many characters, I didn’t get lost in who was who, the author described them all pretty well, I think. I really enjoyed, that author used multiple perspectives to tell the story, it allowed me, as a reader, to understand the characters way better.

I really like trains and somehow this story felt close to my heart. I loved the narrative of this book, and I really enjoyed all the twists and turns, which author had to offer. The villains were given away throughout the book, and there was no surprise effect there, but the whole finding out process and proving Eddy’s innocence was what kept me glued to this book. It was very amusing to read a book, where author’s confidence and experience just shines through. There is plenty of legal terms in this novel, but for me it was a plus, just showed that author knows what he was talking about.

I personally think that Mr. Myers is a very gifted writer, and I loved his writing style in this book, it seems difficult, but for me, it was pretty understandable and easy to read. I really enjoyed the structure of the chapters, it didn’t drag to me, wasn’t too long and was divided into smaller parts. I really liked the setting of this book as well, it has this American spirit about it, and I really loved that. The ending of this novel rounded the whole story very nicely and I loved the outcome. So to conclude, if you like to watch court dramas, do give this book a try, it has very amusing and interesting characters and quite twisty and unexpected narrative. I do hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. 😀

Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is a broken and troubled man. Arthur toils in as demeaning and berated Clown for Hire, and lives with his troubled mother in a dilapidated apartment.
Arthur meets with a Social Worker in an attempt as the seven medications he takes simply are not cutting it and he struggles to cope in a world that has ignored and discarded him.

Arthur dreams of being a comedian but sadly lacks the confidence and ability to pull off his material which is iffy at best. Undaunted he keeps toiling away even when life continues to beat him down mentally and physically.
This all changes when Arthur stops being the victim during and assault and fights back.

Arthur stops taking his medication and becomes more determined and is no longer afraid to confront those who antagonize him.

This leads Arthur to some renewed opportunities such as an appearance on a talk show which he has long idolized.
All of this happens against a smoldering Gotham City where tensions are high and rising even higher due to a Garbage strike and a perception that the elite of the city have abandoned those in need such as eliminating Arthur’s Social Worker due to budget cuts.

With nowhere to go but up; Arthur transforms from a disturbed individual to a violent and deeply disturbed and dangerous individual who is angry and ready for revenge.

Phoenix is fantastic and he is not afraid to let unglamorous scenes of his very thin body or lingering close ups at unflattering angels undermine him. He uses them to illustrate just how disposable Arthur is too many in the film and to also show how little he cares about such matters. The role is deeply dark and disturbing and will no doubt spark much controversy and debate ranging from making a dangerous person a sympathetic figure as well as commentary about class structure and the danger of unstable people inspiring others via a Cult of Personality.

There is a connection to the larger Batman universe even though the film is light on action and FX. This is a character study of a decent into madness and it is deeply disturbing as it is compelling.
