"The love triangle in this movie has probably been the biggest influence on my writing. Truffaut’s rivals aren’t out to destroy each other, they love each other as much as the woman they’re chasing, and this makes the conflict and complications all the more powerful. This film taught me that as a screenwriter you have to have compassion for all your characters, and that nothing is ever black and white."

Fun 80's Comedy
Samantha's (Molly Ringwald) family is busy, so busy in fact that they forgot her sixteenth birthday. Samantha has to cope with this while dealing with various misadventures surrounding her life. It's an innocent 80's comedy that takes you on a fun ride from beginning to end.

Acting: 10

Beginning: 10

Characters: 10

Cinematography/Visuals: 8
There are a number of memorable shots that stick out, including the opening scene where you're first introduced to Samantha's family in her Chicago home. Everything is pure chaos causing for a hilarious beginning. A number of other scenes stick out from Samantha's grandma feeling her up to Samantha's convo with The Geek (Anthony Michael Hall) inside the hollowed-out car in the school's garage. A lot of different set pieces kept the film interesting.

Conflict: 6
One of the weaker portions of the film for me. So people forgot her birthday, boo hoo. Don't get me wrong, Samantha is a very likable character and there was a large part of me that felt sorry for her. I'm just not sure her situation warranted an entire film. Perhaps a different angle would have created more conflict for me.

Genre: 8
Very solid 80's comedy. You can't name films within the decade that stand out without mentioning this one. Coming of age films? This ranks right up there although not quite as strong as some of the ones I've seen in recent years, masterpieces like Boyhood and Lady Bird.

Memorability: 10

Pace: 10

Plot: 7
The story itself is fine. It's believable even as comedies go. Again, the lack of conflict made things a little bland for me. I will say that the number of memorable moments helped pick up the slack from what the film lacked in conflict.

Resolution: 3

Overall: 82
Another 80's classic I can check off the list. A fun film that still stands the test of time.

I, Robot (2004)
I, Robot (2004)
2004 | Action, Mystery, Sci-Fi
I think it was Isaac Asimov who came up with the 3 laws of Robotics, as follows:

1.A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

That's the starting point for this movie, which sees Technophobic 2035 cop Del Spooner (Will Smith) convinced that a robot has just carried out a murder - something which, by those laws, should be impossible for it to do.

The film then takes in the concept of free will and consciousness, all - as an action thriller - wrapped up in a mystery and with a few helpings of what I'm going to call 'wham blam' action

Surprisingly enjoyable.

Excellent archive material and interviews. (0 more)
Excellent documentary funny, heartfelt but honest.
I can truely say this was an excellent documentary regarding a talent that was genius. Tells of young Chris and how he adapted his way of thinking to create the great Frank Sidebottom and the internal conflict it created within the artist.
Its funny, moving and doesn't paint Mr Sievy to be an angel. It's a must watch for any fans of comedy.

Cuco, a Chicano artist from California, blew himself right out of the water with this hit. He has been planning on collaborating with Jean Carter for a while and it has been worth the wait. This song shows the conflict of feelings with an individual who has screwed you over but you still love them because love is complicated. I would definitely recommend listening to this song or even listening to Cuco's interesting musical style at least.

Amazing characterization, a complete fictional world, psychologically satisfying, philosophically intriguing. Moore manages to treat both global and individual conflict quite well. Slightly uneven near the end, where it becomes less deep and more science-fiction-y. Otherwise, it would be a five star series. It deals with its complex subject matter quite competently. I have rated other graphic novels as five star that were not nearly as deeply satisfying, however they handled their admittedly much smaller task slightly better.

"It’d be good to be reminded, as I pass my days sitting on a beach under a coconut tree, of all the life, all the beauty and sorrow, all the mystery; all that can be contained within a relatively modest number of pages. It’d be good to be continually reminded, as I grew older, about how much rampant life, how much emotion and conflict and joy and disappointment, can be conveyed in a novel so perfectly, symmetrically structured."

At just 82 minutes, the movie feels even shorter. It flows smoothly from scene to scene without ever feeling rushed. Director Jeremy Teicher does a phenomenal job of time-management and making you feel a connection in such a short amount of time.

Plot: 10
A part of what makes the story pop so well is how different they made the two main characters. They drive and move the story so smoothly because of their constant conflict. The concept is also very original as well.

If you’re looking for a cute love story that’s not over-the-top sappy, Olympic Dreams is definitely the way to go. I didn’t enter the movie with very high expectations but I ended up absolutely loving it. Nick Kroll and Alexi Pappas are magic together.

A heartbreaking elegy to Nigeria's lost promise
A beautiful and deeply tragic story exploring a family's secrets based in Nigeria. The novel follows four brothers in a small Nigerian village who are given a violent prophecy which shakes their family to the core.

Like most classic African novels in the Achebe-Ngugi tradition, The Fishermen mixes the traditional English novel form with the oral storytelling tradition, dramatising the conflict between the traditional and the modern. It is rather depressing but poignant.

I was expecting a lot better then it was, however it wasn't a bad book just got confusing and the characters kind of annoyed me. I did love cain and abel I will admit and Eve rocked but their trio conflict annoyed me. I felt like neither man seriously wanted to be with her and it was just a game to them. I enjoyed it but found myself fighting to make it through to the end and glad that it was over.
