Merissa (11805 KP) rated Her Last Hello in Books
Dec 21, 2020 (Updated Aug 8, 2023)
HER LAST HELLO is a dark contemporary romance, with more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at.
Athena's life certainly hasn't turned out the way she thought it would, but she has survived. She is a hooker without a future but still dreams of being free. That dream is brought to the surface when she sees an old friend and finds out he is living and working nearby.
I loved how this story gave you all the information you needed but was not graphic or gruesome in any way. It messes with your mind the same way as it messed with Athena.
This was incredibly well-written, with nothing that jumped out at me as 'wrong'. I thought the 'happy' epilogue was wonderful, but the cliffhanger after...? No! Just no! Now I need to find out if that story has been released too.
For a dark romance, I have no hesitation in recommending this book.

I really liked this YA Contemporary Romance. It was sort of run-of-the-mill but I really liked it.
Ryan Hunter obviously had feelings for Lisa and used the opportunity presented to him to get to know her better by training her for the--what I know as football, but what American's know as soccer--team.
Of course it didn't all go to plan, as is the case with most romances. There is always something that goes wrong or a misunderstanding.
The style was really easy for me to get into and I read the full 200-odd pages within a few hours. It was right up my street and I can't wait to read Ryan Hunter, book 2 in the series and all from Ryan's POV.

ArecRain (8 KP) rated The Thirteenth Earl in Books

What a delightful read. After being stuck in contemporary romance limbo, it was refreshing to return to a good historical romance especially since there are so many historical romances pumped out. This one had me from page one, especially since it dealt with a lot of topics not typically seen in this genre. The first is the mental deterioration of people as they age and the other two are spiritualism and ghosts. All of these very much existed during this time, but are generally misunderstood or considered taboo. It was interesting to read the authors take on them in her story.
Overall, the plot is very simple. I felt that the twist or surprise wasnt surprising at all and could be seen from the moment the villain was introduced. Despite that, it was still a delight to read. Thax is among my favorite historical heroes for multiple reasons. He could be dense and rash but his love for the heroine felt genuine and could be seen in his actions towards her. The female characters in this story were equally as enjoyable. They were strong and intelligent without losing a shred of their femininity. I appreciated their resourcefulness.
The Thirteenth Earl is an uncomplicated love story about two people trying to muddle through the drama in their life and end up finding happiness in each other. If you are searching for a heartwarming romance, filled with realistic and likable characters, this novel may be your next rainy day read.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Hide and Seek in Books

So this is different to Lilou's other books, as in it isn't paranormal and instead is a contemporary romance.
I really liked the story and if I wasn't so picky with giving 5 stars then this would probably have gotten 5 stars but as I am, I'm giving it a strong four.
I like how Lilou writes her romances. They're well thought out and developed so that although they are short you're left feeling all nice and warm that the couple got their HEA.
The first meeting between them was well written and I had shivers as I felt the connection between Faye and Quinn. That continued to the first sex scene and I was hooked from there.
I grew to like all the characters, apart from the bad guy of course.
Can't wait to read more books by the author!

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Heart Racer (Heart Racer, #1) in Books

2.5 stars.
This was your usual contemporary romance where girl meets boy, falls in love with boy, boy does something wrong--breaking girls heart...and then usually they make up again and live happily ever after. Only this ended with the boy--Leandro--breaking the girls--Bobby's--heart.
I know it's a series and that the author needed to continue it somehow but I kinda feel cheated, there didn't seem to be a proper ending.
As for the rest of the book, I can't say that I ever really got into it. I was unattached from the characters and the storyline. I don't know if it's because I've read too many books that are similar or if it was the style but something stopped me from liking it. It was just "meh" for me.
I don't think I'll be continuing the series.
