Prue and Ophelia take on jobs as maids to the Coops, Americans who are traveling to their castle in Germanyâs black forest. Almost as soon as theyâve arrived, a cottage is discovered on the property that looks like a dwarf cottage, and fairytale experts are brought in. The next day, Mr. Coop is poisoned with an apple. What have Prue and Ophelia gotten themselves into?
I love fairytales and fairytale reimaginings, so I had to give this cozy mystery series a try. It was so much fun. The story was fast paced, and the fairytale aspect provided a nice twist to the cozy formula. The characters were sharp as well, and the author made perfect use of a multiple viewpoint story. Canât wait for the sequel.

'Family curses don't exist. Sure, some families seem to suffer more pain than others, but a curse? An actual curse? I don't think so.'
A family tragedy was the catalyst for Ian Perkins to return to the isolated cottage with his wife and young son. But now they are back, it seems yet more grief might befall the family.
There is still time to act, but that means Ian must face the uncomfortable truth about his past. And in doing so, he must uncover the trust behind the supposed family curse.
Review
Ian Perkins is the main character in this novel. Ian returns to the family cottage 'Cobweb Cottage' with hes wife Rachel and son Harry the cottage as been isolated for some time. Ian starts searching about hes family 'curse' he heard hes dad speak about when he was younger. Ian's Uncle Stephen dies in a tragic accident and hes brother took he's own life. He wants to know why this happened and if the 'curse' is true but he get's obsessed with searching hes family documents.
I do feel the beginning was slow to me but I understand the writer wanted to show you what happened from the present and the past to show where this family 'curse' suppose to start from the documents Ian found in the 'Cobweb Cottage'.
I do feel some parts confused me as it kept jumping from past to present without telling you, like one scene it got scary but then it jumped to the past. It did make me question what is happening but near to the end of the book I got glued to it to find out if the curse was real and what will happen.
I have questions like if the curse is real will it continue on Ian's family? Will the curse continue on? I felt the darkness from the book and was always thinking what was wrong with Ian's wife Rachel. Will they see the light at the end of the tunnel? As they need some good to happen as I feel their emotions especially Rachel she comes into scenes quietly and it's like you don't notice her and Harry aren't there before they leave for her parents.
I would like to read more of the authors books in the future.
I want to thank Hideaway Fall for sending me out Broken Branches by M Jonathan Lee. They sent me out a paperback to write a honest review. This is all my own opinion of the book.

MoMoBookDiary (20 KP) rated Murder at Hawthorn Cottage (Melissa Craig #1) in Books
Oct 1, 2018
MoMoBookDiary enjoyed this murder mystery.
The first in the series on Melissa Craig. I am looking forward to reading book two next.
It is an ideal summer holiday (beach) read, with a writer-cum-sleuth trying to solve a murder which was committed in the vicinity of her new home - Hawthorn Cottage.
Set in a quaint little village - Ideal for fans of Agatha Raisin series
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this cozy mystery..

This novel is told in both the present and in ancient Celtic times, both storylines taking place in the same locale. In present day Wales, following the death of her husband, Tilda moves into the house that she and Matt had purchased to start their new life in together. After spending some time alone in her cottage, Tilda starts to experience strange things, and finds a new sort of power developing inside her. In ancient times, we hear the story of Seren, a shaman and seer to a Celtic Prince who lived on a man-made island in the middle of the lake near Tilda's cottage.
Each story on its is intriguing. We know early on that there is a connection between the two women, but it takes longer for Tilda to realize why she feels such an affinity for the lake and the area around her new home. By the time she does, her life and the life of her new love may be in more danger than she can handle.
This book has a little bit of everything. Historical fiction, fantasy, suspense, and a touch of romance. I highly recommend this one if you are a fan of any of those genres.

Merissa (12051 KP) rated Claimed by Her Viking Wolf (Vikings Through Time #1) in Books
May 8, 2023
Kim is on a camping trip with her little sister and her sister's current 'pretty boy'. They quickly decide that more fun is to be had at Kim's cottage, and it is with great pleasure, that Kim shoo's them off. This gives her the opportunity to investigate a growling sound that she heard that, although she knows should scare her, doesn't. She doesn't find an animal, what she finds is a big, strapping Viking, complete with broadsword. She is able to get him back to her cottage where, luckily, her sister and pretty boy have already left. The fun then starts for Kim, culminating with a choice that she has to make.
This was a fun but hot read, with main characters that were 'human'. There was no silliness in Kim's behaviour, and Asger was alpha enough to be dreamy, without being a misogynistic fool.
There is love, action, romance and humour to be found within these pages. This is book one of the series and I can't wait to read more. Definitely recommended.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

ClareR (5721 KP) rated The Household in Books
Jun 25, 2024
Stacey Hallsâ latest book The Household, is set in a house for âfallenâ women. This house did actually really exist: Urania Cottage was set up by, amongst others, Charles Dickens and Angela Burdett-Coutts.
Charles Dickens doesnât feature in this book, although he is mentioned. This wonderful novel is all about the women.
Angela has been stalked for many years, her life made a misery by a man that no one takes seriously. He has been released from prison for another crime (as stalking wasnât a crime until recently), and Angela is dreading the moment when he turns up again. And you just know itâs going to happen.
There is also the matter of a missing girl: one of the inhabitants of Urania Cottage has lost contact with her young sister, and sheâs missing from the big house she worked in.
This book was captivating - the attention to historical detail, the development of the characters (particularly Angela and Martha), the way that with a modern eye, itâs supremely frustrating that young women of any class were held in such low regard. But these women do fight to get the life they want, and that must have been a reasonably rare occurrence.
This is well worth a read - another fantastic read from Stacey Halls!

I truly loved every sweetest page of Coming Home to Maple Cottage by Holly Martin.
This enchanting story is overflowing with friendship, romance, love, family and fun. It will have you making your way through a box of tissues as you read. I laughed, I cried, I was completely in love with Isla, Elliot and of course Leo!Â
I donât know how I havenât read Holly Martin before but I will be doing all I can to catch up on her full catalogue of books and all future releases too!
