I really liked this book. It felt real, not because of the events - a series of coincidences leading Elan and Caty back to each other again and again. No, the book felt real because of how the characters felt about the events.

I've been in a sort-of long distance relationship and a lot of the feelings, worries, concerns, about starting one felt incredibly real and emotional. I read this whole book with my boyfriend in the back of my mind, despite the fact our story and that of Caty and Elan aren't really that similar.

The way these characters felt about each other, however, was. I even highlighted one line, which I never do, because it resonated with me so much - "I'd been counting wrong the whole time". When you only have a small amount of time with someone, a little change in plans can feel incredibly jarring. I loved how Elan and Caty's relationship developed. The section of texts was beautiful, showing simple conversations that people who can't see each other have. It was a lovely way of developing the relationship and the characters, quickly but naturally.

Overall this book was very emotional to read, hit close to home, felt realistic, and I would definitely read other books by this author.

Four's a crowd

Twenty-sixth Godzilla movie (also eleventh Mothra movie, eighth Ghidorah movie and third Baragon movie, in case anyone's counting) recruits director Shusuke Kaneko, helmsman of the brilliant 90s Gamera trilogy; results are (perhaps inevitably) disappointing. A new incarnation of Godzilla threatens Japan, but a young tabloid TV journalist encounters a mysterious old man in an equestrian safety helmet who tells her of three legendary Guardian Monsters who will defend the country against this menace (Baragon is also a Guardian Monster but not famous enough to get his name in the title).

Some interesting innovations: first film to address (even obliquely) issues of Japanese culpability for events of the Second World War, first film where King Ghidorah is a good guy, first film with a scene set in Godzilla's intestinal tract. However, the end result is let down by a fatally uncertain tone - seemingly serious scenes of death and carnage are intercut with knockabout cheesy humour and in-jokes (in the English dub at least). The retro feel of the movie, hearkening back to the 60s films of the series, is not unwelcome, but its take on the formula is just plain weird. Most importantly it lacks the mythic grandeur of the Kaneko Gamera trilogy. Still better than the films which immediately preceded it, though.

Favorite video game of all time!

Fire Emblem Awakening is my favorite video game of all time! I have gotten most of my friends to play it because I love it so much. This is what I tell them: I first played it on my ex-boyfriend's 3 DS. when I broke up with him, I couldn't stop thinking about Fire Emblem Awakening, so I bought a 3 DS so that I could play the game. I have never really played video games but I have now replayed this one four times and counting. When the next game in the Fire Emblem series came out, I literally stopped to purchase it on my way to check myself in to the emergency room. Thats how much I love this game! It has made me excited about the rest of the series as well, but so far this is my absolute favorite.

The characters are incredible the strategy and tactics part is quite good and has a variety of levels for casual up to very serious players. The story is absolutely amazing and the animation is also excellent.

if you don't have this game, you should buy it and play it. If you don't have a 3 DS, you should buy it so that you can play this game. It's that good!
